To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Since I updated the firmware to 2.18, it no longer works with my Openspot. I will get a very brief moment of audio, and the callsign info will pop up, but then it go back to the main screen. This will repeat itself about every 2 seconds if the transmission continues. The green receive light flashes on and off as if the radio keeps dropping the signal.

I have 2 scanners , An AOR DV-1 and a Hytera PD362 all receiving the Openspot just fine.

After further testing, I have this same problem - This is a major issue!

I'm not having any issues with my 868 on my openSPOT using this same FW, and 0.5w on 'Low' is perfect for hotpsot usage (battery lasts forever that way).

So sometimes the audio comes through just fine. I'm trying to figure out a repeatable way to make it happen. Earlier it was not good and then all of a sudden it was fine. I have been unable to make it "bad" again.

Can someone have a listen and tell me if there is a birdie on 156.000 ?

I like to have a listen to HMCG from time to time but my Baofeng and Radioddity have a birdie here. I am expecting the 868 to have this also.

Many CCRs use a 26 MHz reference oscillator.
Depending on how poorly the radio was designed, reference oscillator harmonics can often be heard as "birdies" on 156, 416, 442, 468 & 494 MHz.

FYI... I have a D868 (recently upgraded to FW 2.18) and - for what it's worth - my radio does NOT have a birdie on 156.0000.

D868's with early firmware had a issue with RF leakage from the display on VHF frequencies. That issue appears to have been resolved.

Thanks

Thanks for the answer guys, it seems that some have it and some don't.. maybe it is a firmware fix that has fixed it, who knows.

Once one becomes available in the UK for sale I will grab one and hope :) It's not a deal breaker to be honest.

All

The latest firmware update for the D868 (FW 2.18) has apparently "repaired" the Digital Monitor function (aka Promiscuous Mode). It now seems to work well.

John AC4JK

Is it Promiscuous on TG, CC & TS or just on TGs ?

I saw the posts with simplex issues with openSPOT and knew a quick check with my other radio a CS580 on simplex was working only in one direction.

After about 2 hours maybe 3 of trying different combination of configurations on 441.000 MHz this is my conclusion.

The 868 has checkboxes for TDMA Simplex, Adaptive and Call Conformation. There is some information in the v1.18 programing guide. The most important box might be the Call Conformation box.

I can always transmit from the 580 and be heard on the 868. From the 868 to the 580 it does not work. What I see on the 868 is a brief transmission then a few seconds later the "No Repeater Found" popup. No indication on the 580 of any transmission from the 868.

Regardless if the Call conformation box is checked off or not it appears that the 868 is always expecting to receive an ACK from the 580.

The 580 does a Private Call ACK which I briefly tried, but was getting tired and frustrated with lack of progress and had already convinced myself the issue was the Call Conformation Box not checked was not being recognized by the 868.

Both radios on reduced power levels with the 868 on an antenna and the 580 on a dummy load. Audio on the 868 sounded good with a slight echo delay so I don't think I was overdriving the front end and had a reasonable hardware setup.

Looking forward to the next update.:D

I've had no issues making the 868 work with my openSPOT (v131 FW) using the current 2.18 FW, or local repeaters that are DMR-MARC affiliate systems.

Make sure your channels look like what I have here - none of those boxes on the right should be checked, or need to be. 'TDMA Simplex' is the DCDM mode that's present in the Motorola units & Hytera models with v8 FW or higher. That 'TDMA Adaptive' has me confused, as the closest thing I can think of is Hytera's 'Psuedo Trunking' (XPT).

My 7550e has no issues talking to the 868 on simplex via one of the 3 'DMR Simplex' channels (and the same in reverse).

I have 4 simplex channels programmed on the 868. Three of them work fine, but on the fourth one (433.450), The Hytera and the Anytone do not recognize each other in either direction. I think the frequency may be off.

Unchecked for the three boxes is where I started from.

TX permit is ALWAYS and Receive Group List is NONE on my setup. I wouldn't think that matters.

Mike

P.S. TURN OFF "AUTO REPEATER" option on 868.

Next issue is the 580 only passes audio in Enhanced Monitor mode. Parameters on the 580 are correct for setup on the 868. I might have fumbled something on the 580 simplex programming.
