I have one. It was my first scanner. I loved it. Was great for Cellular back when you could hear cellular. I still use it, but the keyboard contacts went bad. So I'm lucky I got all my local freqs in before that happened. If anyone knows where to buy a replacement keypad, or how to fix one, please let me know.

I've still got mine, packed away somewhere. Pain in the butt to program but one of the few
unblocked radios I've got left. The only reason I haven't tried to sell it was because most people
won't want to pay anything for it....so I keep it. I bought it it at Jun's which I believe is now Ham City?

I still have mine, yes a pain to program but a great receiver, WFM came in handy for certain things that were a bit wider than normal and would deviate out of the passband.

I can't find much bad to say about any of my 80's/90's scanners (Pro 2004 2006 43, and AOR1000)

I used to have an AR1000 (from Scanners Unlimited in the Bay Area I think it was in Redwood City, Ca. or near there).

Eventually it developed a short circuit somewhere near the battery compartment. It would short the batteries whenever you squeezed the bottom area of it.

I did love that unit even though the button presses were quirky (to the extreme). I doubt if I could figure out how to use it without a lot of practice and studying the poorly written (translated maybe), manual.

I gave mine away (too).

I have an AOR 1000

Bought it new ...forget where. Works OK for a few minutes then while you still see it scanning you can't hear any transmissions.
Who repairs these and is it worthwhile to get it fixed?

I believe mine is pre 1986 and the electronic privacy act not sure though but I was told if i sent it in for repairs it would be modified so as not to receive cell phone signals. I hardly ever use it and have no interest in listening to cell phones,

Yeah, privacy act...don't think it makes much difference since most cells these days can't be picked up and I don't think anyone uses any of the old ones. What ever happened to the simple privacy act of not broadcasting what you don't want heard.
Don't think they could legally alter a radio that was sent in for a fix. Not a big deal as I don't want to listen to cells anyway.
Unit is a bear to program, I just wanted to listen to some police and fire while power was out due to Irene.

Worst scanner I ever bought. Intermod brick!

Horrible, horrible scanner.

Put me off AOR equipment for many years.

Saved for ages to buy one back in 1991 when I had started my first job out of school.
It would pick up *everything* all up and down the bands, sometimes all at once.
Programming was a nightmare and it liked to lock up needing to be reset completely.

Sold it to another hobbyist for around half what I paid for it and hoped it didn't end up coming back through one of the house windows!

Eventually got an AOR AR8000 which is a magnificent radio.
