While I do not have nxdn or tetra modes near me I would be interested in learning the procedure and results of this modification. My dv10 has firmware 2203a, not yet released on the aor web site and is an unblocked receiver.

It allows you to do the things you already can, since you have a unblocked version. The info and the tooling is not meant to be public, I already explained how the process worked.

Hello!

I did the unblock tonight and it worked. The VI is now present (line 7) and I have to test also the NXDN 15 bits descrambling live. According to the manual, once I am on a scrambled NXDN (D-CR), I have to push MODE a bit longer and then the KEY LOCK KEY. An interrogation point should appear and few seconds later the conversation should be hearable. Is that correct?

C0one, THANK YOU for your rev.eng. work !! I am eager to test the new FW to come (22xx)

Thank you also iMONITOR for the Linux sw. I will try to find an old sw that works on W$ in my CDs...time allowing

You’re welcome. In reality I don’t think you will find many scrambled signals(digital/analog). They are more likely encrypted.

The process for de-scrambling has changed in later firmware. When monitoring a D-CR/NXDN4800 channel you now start this with a single short press of the red power button on the side, and you will see it hunt with a set of flashing ???? symbols. If successful it will then display the code. Sometimes it will display a false positive on weak / short signals. But it does work.

Agreed.
Of course according to AOR and I quote "a "scrambled" signal is not an "encrypted" signal. AR-DV10 cannot decode encrypted signals of any kind".
And yet it decodes the key and recovers the voice from a Kenwood NXDN radio, where the code is set using the NXDN Encryption Menu and enabled on a channel via the Encryption settings.
Obviously they are totally different things ;-)

AFAIK on Kenwood NXDN radios have digital scrambling built is as 'basic privacy', for encryption the radios require an extra hardware module..

Hi Mike. So hopefully we don't go too far OT, nor stray into territory that the mods would prefer we don't....
I'm not sure what the technical definition is, but I've often thought of scrambling for analogue and encryption for digital. The Kenwood NX range has both, and refers to scrambling in an analogue context, encryption for digital. The standard NXDN encryption is built-in, 15-bit with 32k keys. So much more secure than Motorola's 255 key Basic Privacy - which is very weak - but less than a 56-bit DES option which requires an add on board, or the 40-bit Enhanced Privacy built into most DMR radios now.

It turns out i have some voice inverted signals near me. They are PMR systems used by my local shops. I can descramble them with a tool called “deinvert”. But when i apply the same carrier frequency 2870hz in the DV10 it still sounds the same as without. So it’s seems like it doesn’t work.

Nevermind, it has to be in FM mode not AUTO. It kinda seems to work, although deinvert works better for me.

Yes, the limitations are software based. A modified firmware and a serial command would turn it into an un-blocked version permanently. This is apparently how they are programmed at the factory. Now, despite i know how, I can’t help you since this is illegal.

Hey c0ne, could you please contact me o n u r @ c y b e r t r o n i c s . uk
