I just used a push pin and hung it over my sliding glass door so that it had a clear view out the window.
I've used thumb tacks (aka, push pins) to hang J-poles on the inside of exterior walls. Works fine. Just try to make sure there is no electrical wiring in the wall where you hang the antenna (no light switches or outlets in the 16" wall span where you hang the antenna). Windows can work, too, but there's a chance of metal in the window frame upsetting the quarter-wave portion of the antenna, which is a transformer.

I’ve run an Elk LP mounted on a 5 foot PVC stand in an upstairs bedroom for several years, up to 65 watts with no interference to other radios. It’s more compact than other dual band antennas and offers a bit of gain using a hand held. A few pieces of PVC and it’s easy to take down and move when necessary. I have no issues getting into repeaters 40 miles away. Made quite a few satellite contacts as well.

I use the Elk dual band, one to the north, one to the south on a alpha delta switch, on pvc stands.

Could use this amplifier with a 5w handheld on 144-148 to hit 200 watts for simplex:

Elk dual band portable set up makes the 5w much more usable.
