Why do people insist in calling P25, "IMBE"?
Maybe because it's their vernacular. Leave it alone man, leave it alone. The meaning makes its way across.

But it is like calling CW "English".

E.G. I was transmitting in "English" and he was capable of receiving "English", yet we were still having trouble, so we switched to IMBE.

Shouldn't it really be called CAI, as it is really the Common Air Interface capabilities in conventional that we are really utilizing?

Except every standard has a Common Air Interface.

Is just using P25 not "cool" enough or what?

For those of you on the board who have amateur P25 repeaters in service, the cutoff to the ARRL for the repeater directory is January 10th. So if your interested in having it listed in the P25 area I recommend that you contact your coordinating body as soon as possible to have get your listings included.

There are four UHF ham repeaters in the northern NJ area (Bergen and Passaic counties) running Astro/analog mixed mode. All are NAC 293.

442.000 PL 156.7
442.700 unknown PL
443.450 PL 141.3
443.750 PL 141.3

These were never really identified or located in this thread, so I figured I'd contribute:
N2HWY 443.450+ 141.3 Montclair, NJ
WA2SQQ 442.000+ 156.7 Wayne, NJ
W2RN 443.750+ 141.3 Wood Ridge, NJ
W2MR 442.700+ 97.4 (141.3?) Alpine, NJ

One could put together a nice series of wiki articles on this topic - where to find P25 compatible radios (which manufacturers, ect.), location of repeaters, ect. Even links to P25 repeater sites might work. A fairly good set of topics could be covered...

On UHF, the K6CCC machine.

I just sold a VHF Quantar to a Baldwin Hills ARC member, and it will be going on the air soon.
