WHy don't you team up with some other local hams and put up one for yourself. ;) There is lots of used gear on the market.

I will, once I have a few grand to spare and find the fellow hammies who aren't 90 years old and only want to talk about their medical problems. :p

I have tried looking into the price of these repeaters before though, and have always had trouble finding any in the used market.

Fourtunately I don't a lot of those types of conversations on mine. Once we crank up the digital QSO's the older analog users tend to stay away. :D

I hear ya about saving up the $. Personally I have 2 in operation and the Quantars were 2 grand each. A far cry from the new price of 12K per box, but still a boatload of cash.

APCO 25 in Minneapolis?

I will be traveling to Minneapolis. Does there exist an APCO amateur machine nearby?

Thanks much!

There is a P25 mixed mode ham machine in Frederick, MD - N3ITA/R - 442.800/447.800 PL 79.7 for analog and NAC 797 in and out for digital. Just watch for analog traffic it can get busy sometimes. 73's and enjoy!

Dan,
I switched to mixed mode on 1/20/09 when I put the new repeater up on Gambrill Mountian. In analog it is linked to the N3UHD 442.650 in Clearspring and in P25 it is single site.

Immelmen,
Not sure if you can get it in DC metro depends on where you are and how high... - I do talk to a guy in Arlington, VA (in analog) from time to time and I can get in from Takoma Park but it is rough.

I'll see if I can break it from College Park....

Thanks Immelmen but Grambrill is a great location and I am very fortunate to have a spot there. Here is a link with a "coverage map" that will at least give a rough idea of good areas also in the "TAG Search" field I listed mine as P25. When I did a tag search it was the only one that showed up.

Here is linked coverage in analog if your curious.

Now I've got to get my hands on an XTS 3K - maybe we could start a P25 net or something.

Working on P25 in DC

Just wanted to give a very early heads-up that there may be a DC-based, P25 machine on UHF later this year. Initially, the stand-alone high-site should provide solid portable coverage throughout DC and inside the beltway as well as mobile coverage out to 30 miles or so.

It is way too soon to give any specifics as I do not want to jinx the project at this early stage!

Michael

RE; APCO-25 in Texas

I only know that here in the Williamson County and Travis County, Texas area we have someone here that uses APCO-25 on the 146.940 repeater. I have forgotten his callsign but I will see if in fact the repeater has APCO-25. 73's

Thought I would bring this thread back to the top.

I am going to San Antonio, TX in a few weeks. Anything there on P25? Also, is there a good single online source right now of P25 repeaters? The frappr and p25ham.com sites seem to be outdated (or out of service).

APCO 25 in San Antonio, Tx.

As far as I have noticed the only Digital system in Bexar County other than the 2 D-Star repeaters is the Bexar County EDACS ProVoice. But there is nothing out there made to pick that system up yet. Im hope they will soon though!!! 73's Hutto, Texas -.- ..... - -.-- _.
