Hi all,
Is there any other radios available to monitor Apco 25 besides the Uniden and Radio Shack models.

Thanks,

Scanners or radios.

For Radios you have Bendix King, Vertex, Icom and Tait as alternatives.

I use a Vertex P25 mobile to monitor some of the local VHF P25 systems.

Your master site
For multi-band monitoring and/or trunking support, besides Uniden and RadioShack, you have the AOR AR8600MKIIB or Icom IC-R2500, PCR-2500 or IC-R9500. If you want a handheld scanner you're stuck with the two you mentioned though GRE has branched off on their own.

The commercial gear like trooperdude mentioned would work best for P25 but would require a little more effort and cash to program though many can be programmed from the front panel. Not the greatest scanners if you want to scan a lot though.

The ideal P25 receiver would be a Motorola radio with the newest DSP. The RadioShack/GRE scanners are pretty close in decoding quality.

I meant scanners. I actually just picked upa Icom P25 two way walkie talkie. The question was for a friend.

Thanks all.

I'll second that. An XTS5000 or XTL equivelant with DSP9.00.03 would be choice, however an XTS3000 or AstroSaber running DSP8.03.03 will do just as well. If you plan on using them for trunking, make sure you have the host that will support rebanding. I believe it's R07.14, but R07.71 is the latest (and probably last for that series)
