do u all think these new radios will support the new phases of apco coming out ? If not 500 dollars would be alot to just throw away within a few yrs

Stick0413 said:I wouldn't say so. Personally I don't see them going to Phase 2 for years to come.

N_Jay said:Well "some" of "them" will go to Phase 2 as soon as equipment is available, and "some others" of "them" will never go.
There's a lot of equipment out there that will support being upgraded but as of now nothing is using the format.Viper43 said:Well apparently there is equipment out there as Indy's new system will be Phase 2

I say it costs 500.00 for a scanner that will decode p25 phase one...May cost 1,000 to decode phase 2...This S#!^ is never ending alway's trying to improve this junk to convince other's that it's gonna be so much better to make that almighty dollar..ShawnCowden said:do u all think these new radios will support the new phases of apco coming out ? The fact is the scanners you are spending your money on today will eventually become a brick..If they go to phase 2..So you pay 500 for your new gre today when phase 2 hits the market if you want to hear it you will need an updated scanner will cost you another 500 so you have spent a grand total of 1,000..N_Jay said:Hu??
It is not significantly different hardware or licensing, so it should be about the same as today's P25 scanners.

I am with you on this I have one of my dads old scanners that is almost forty years old and it has a Cristal set in it and it still works for the fire dept where my dad lived I bring it alnog when I go home and my brothers and my sisters get a real kick out of listening to this reciver that would just piss off my Mom she would yell at the old Man to turn that thing down, now days she just sets and listens with a smile on face when we plug that old thing in. now my better half cant stand all of the radio stuff that I have going on here from ham radios and more scanners then I have fingers some old some new they all have a place and work.W4KRR said:So using that logic, we should never buy any scanner, because no matter what scanner we buy, it will be outdated someday.
I have a 30 year old Bearcat 101 scanner sitting here. Is it outdated? Well, I can't get my local police on it, but it's still good for railroads, VHF marine, local businesses, tow trucks, 2 meter and 440 MHz ham radio repeaters, so is it outdated or not? There will always be something new and better coming along, so what exactly should we be waiting for? When is the right time to buy?
