• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

There are numerous existing threads on similar topics, but they are all old and closed, so I had to start a new one. I'm seeking commercial off the shelf (COTS) Bluetooth options (receive only) for an APX 900 and don't want to have to keep buying Bluetooth hardware until I find something that works.

We purchased an APX 900 for my major. We are currently carrying mostly the XTS 5000 with just a few APX 6000s in the mix, but he wanted a small radio with Bluetooth capability so he can monitor on an earbud. He doesn't care about PTT, he just uses the PTT and microphone on the radio for that.

I take care of a fleet of XPR 6550 and XPR 7550e portables on UHF as well as our public safety 700/800 gear, so naturally I use one of the XPR 7550e portables for DMR and analog on the amateur band as well as the UHF Part 90 stuff I take care of. Anyway, I had zero problems pairing an old (like 10 years old) Motorola H270 Bluetooth earpiece with my XPR 7550e. I've also paired a set of Senso ActivBuds S250 stereo Bluetooth earphones with the XPR 7550e and they also work quite well.

So the APX 900 came in. Only one we have. We got a couple of cheap no-name brand Bluetooth earbuds and tried to pair them to the APX 900. No luck. I also tried pairing them with an APX 6000 and that didn't work either. I then tried pairing my 10 year old Motorola H270 earpiece with the APX 900 and it paired right up, no problem. Audio worked well, in fact it works just as well on the APX 900 as it does on the XPR 7550e.

Does anybody have any suggestions for a small single Bluetooth earbud (receive only is fine) that is known to work with the APX 900 and/or XPR 7550e? It looks like the Motorola H270 is still available on Amazon for about $40, but I don't think he wants something that big. I went to a /\/\SI APX accessories review recently where the MSI sales rep showed us a tiny Phonak Bluetooth earbud, but anything Phonak or /\/\SI branded is going to be $$$.

Before doing that, I tried pairing my cheap "Senso" brand stereo headphones with it. Connected up just fine. It seems to be a crap shoot......

Did you try changing the Bluetooth Pairing Type to Standard in CPS?
FWIW, on this APX 900 codeplug, the only option is "Standard". The options for "LF MPP & Standard" and "LF MPP" are not available.

We finally found something that worked, its some little generic $20 Amazon job. But like I said, it seems to be a crap shoot.

Mirrors our experiences with the APX900s we have. Sometimes COTS works, sometimes it doesn't. Won't play nice at all with things like wireless speakers or audio systems in cars either.
So far, the APX 900 Bluetooth has worked identical to the XPR 7550e. My experience has also been the same with the car audio systems, specifically the SYNC in our Ford Escape. I would love to pipe the XPR audio over the Bluetooth in the car, but no joy.

Kind of on the same topic, I'm trying to get my XPR 7550e to pair with my laptop so I can program over Bluetooth. In my codeplug, the list of available features says Bluetooth programming is free (included). However, when I try to pair the radio with the PC, the radio tells me "Purchase Required". When I try to pair the PC with the radio, it finds it, but doesn't fully pair. It acts like there is a driver missing, but I have all the latest everything downloaded and installed from my MOL subscription, and it can't find a missing driver in there anywhere.
