To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello, Does anyone know how to make the TPT trunking hack to work on a APX/XTS. I can't find any information on this searching high and low. If anyone can provide instructions, it would be much appreciated. But I don't even know if it is possible to do it anymore. I've tried following some old instructions on how to do it from the HT1000s, but that didn't work lol, what was I even thinking.

Thanks.

FPP Method. Astro System - DVRS Enable, Talk Permit Tone, TA when No Comms, TA Retries set to 1. Using FPP to change mode

Then theres the issue of DVRS data packet being sent to look for the DVRS every 3 minutes. Its been a while since I did this but I had spent quite some time playing with CPS and successfully got it to work without sending the data bursts every 3 minutes although theres some limitations.

This was on a R20 XTS5000. IIRC, once you change the FPP freq from keypad it reverts back, so the TA freq/repeater input must be programmed in CPS otherwise it reverts back to 1/1 talkaround freq if your screw with it in FPP. You may have to tweak the timers I had mine set to Infinite, Infinite, 10

Try this...
Under Conventional Config tick off Direct Frequency
Program a ABC switch position to Talkaround/Direct and in the Zone personality that channels Talkaround/Direct freq it must be ticked off/checked as Talkaround, and input those freqs
Channel must not be in scan list and TX & RX modes set to Non-Astro. Changed to Mixed after Write to Radio

Now, I had to power the radio off/on reset on talkaround and mixed mode for it to work and any other FPP changes to the channel and it reverts back to 1 on 1 talkaround and you lose this trick
Pretty cool trick, now you can get all hyped up to play "trunking sounds" on a regular repeater. This drove me nuts blowing the codeplug had to be 20+ times before I reset the radio trying all kinds of whackery

Chrismol1,

Packet data being sent: I've tried various configurations to eliminate the packet data sent when DVRS is enabled including your suggestions in this thread of Infinite, Infinite,10. I'm still getting packets sent every 3 minutes or so.

I'm operating on a P25 conventional repeater (Quantar) in P25 conventional mode with XTS-5000's running R20.50.09. Can you elaborate on your comment "successfully got it to work without sending the data bursts every 3 minutes although theres some limitations." I'd like to eliminate the 3 minute data bursts if possible and am interested in how you accomplished this and what limitations you found.

Thank You!

ok, just tried it on my end with TX & RX Type from FPP set both to digital, and after 15 min - no data bursts on my end. Check if you have some sort of packet data enabled, CAI Data Registration or something similar. Cycle the radios power- after programming. Its fussy, no changes must be made in FPP after CPS programming except to the Tx & Rx Types in the FPP menu

Also, there is a difference between the sound of the TPT chirp on analog vs digital. Using FPP to set the Tx Type to digital makes a longer sounding nothing like the trunking chirp you'll hear when set to Tx type: analog

Thank you Chrismol1 for the additional information and perspective. I appreciate the help. I'll take another look at it.

Chris,

So I am running an XTS5000, VHF (non-FPP) model. I have programmed mine to the above settings, that you recommended to another member and I am not getting the standard 3-beeps, TPT, or "Trunking Tone" when I TX on a P25 channel. Any thoughts of what it could be or what I could be doing wrong? If you give me your email, I could send you my codeplug so you can see what I have programmed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Nick

I believe it relies on programming the radio as non-astro and then changing it to mixed mode with FPP after its programmed that tricks it into thinking it should be on a dvrs in talkaround mode. I have tried the opposite but didn't get the result unless its programmed as non-astro and changed to mixed mode RX in and analog TX with FPP. Analog only will get you the quick short TPT beeps. P25 mode digital Tx Type will give you this long drawn out almost like a landline phone ringing after you dial a number. My codeplug will not allow the TX Options tab to change to Non-Astro while in Mixed Mode on the RX page, as I assume this is intended, which is where the FPP comes in to change this after its programmed

LOL @ whackers, if anyone is thinking whackers with a TPT tone is news, I got news for you. Everyone is a whacker by virtue of carrying a motorola if you aren't involved in public safety
