• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

So i got an old APX4000 that is Astro (P25) Enabled and it was a learning curve to use APX CPS but i was able to figure it out and was able to download the latest version of APX CPS R31

The radio is UHF2 (450-520mhz) so i programmed in " Receive Only Personality" some Local agencies and I set it up with scan function and a scan list and it does a decent job as a scanner for monitoring for Analog and P25 Channels .
I already have an SDS100 and i was hoping to be able to do more things with the APX4000 as a HAM Operator but it's my first ever Motorola so it's very new Territory's for me

since the radio is 10 Year Old and i wanted to explore the option to use it for P25 for local Ham repeater in my area it seem my only option is to do a Hotspot with a raspberry Pi ( Pistar) or buy a high end Hotspot from Bridgecom

I would welcome some feedback from Motorola Subject Matter and APX4000 Owners

I have some question

1) is there an option for a fee to flash the Radio so it would be enable for 2m Ham band?
2) How much would it cost and how hard is it to flash the radio
3) Is there a way to update the firmware ( below are the codeplug info)
CodePlug Version R31.00.01
DSP Version R13.00.00
Secure Version ER010512
Tunning Version T01.10.02
PSDT version R07.00.00
Bootloader Version R20.04.00

The UHF R2 model won't even go down to the 70cm (440) ham band, much less 2m (144). It's a single band UHF radio, so no, it can't be "flashed" to operate on VHF.

As the previous experts have stated, that APX4000 in UHF R2 is useless on "any" Ham Band.
What you need is an APX7500 (Dual Band) in VHF/UHF R1 (403-470), and it ain't cheap at about $1750+.
I'm on the lookout for one as well.
