• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello RadioReference,

I took apart 6000 to put a new RF board in due to the old one having P25 conventional disabled. Now that I have the board in it says "Fail 01/A2". I put the original RF board back in, and it still says fail. I have tried both multiple times now, but even on the original, it says fail. I have also looked on other threads. Threads have said "send to the depot", or even just "I took apart the radio, messed with it and it was fixed". I also saw to read from APX Tuner. I read in Tuner R32.00.000, which is the same version of CPS I use. But when I read the unit, Tuner said "read failed". I tried tuner with another unit to be sure that Tuner is fine, and that working unit was reading fine. If anyone knows what's wrong, please tell!!

Thanks!

The controller and RF boards are mated at the factory and you can't swap them successfully. That's depot level maintenance.

Most likely you're screwed. Recovery from that mistake isn't possible without tools we don't talk about here.

NEVER swap around RF boards in an APX. It breaks the pairing of them and renders the radio useless.

Fortunately I learned this BEFORE getting into a scenario where I might have been tempted to try.

Yeah, I was basically repeating what you said. Did I get it wrong? Learning has taken place! ;)

In the near future I expect to getting WAY more hands-on APX experience than I've ever had before. I'll be learning under the guidance of some more APX-experienced techs.

You could've simply linked to my post and said "Read this..." instead of regurgitating what I posted a mere 3 days ago without crediting the source of your insight. Ah well, par for the course, I suppose.

Maybe you should try to avoid giving offense. Just as a basic policy of trying to get along well with other humans, forgive them for their mistakes and imperfections, and add more friends and fewer enemies to your list of assocations. I know, taking the higher road is difficult. It's also less fun. But it's worth doing.
