• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Getting one soon... radio techs have a few more tweaking on the codeplug to do before I can officially have mine.

Question though... what’s the pixel size of the LCD display. Pretty sure we can change the startup image with an agency logo as long as it’s the right pixel size.

Agency issued APX 8000?

The above plus the fact that it is obvious that the poster is a novice who should not be messing around with an actual subscriber radio and CPS. This is like giving an 8 year old kid keys to a Pagani Huayra and telling him "it is easy to drive...just Google driving and follow the online directions!"
Stick with a scanner or Unication pager and leave the programming of subscriber radios to those of us who have extensive training and many years experience.

I say let em make their own keys. It is fun to watch GenWatch Subscriber Access Manager do its job. So many bricks (bricked radios), you could use them to fill in pot holes !

Well, in this case. The person using a subscriber radio would want to insure he is not programming it to affiliate. But this can only be done if you know what you are doing in CPS.

If I was to buy an APX from an E-Bay seller, it would be from RICK Thompson, GALLAD 2000, or EF Johnson. I have made purchases from all 3 seller's, & their equipment was all top notch. Never heard of the Kolaid guy, or dealt with him.
I can add an additional seller to that list, Dan, snarlingrabiddog on eBay, has been a pleasure to deal with. I've purchased 2 XTS5000 model 3's a matched pair in VHF/UHF, both FPP (proper flashed FPP) as well as a Vehicular Radio Adapter with HHCH mic for them and some surveilance earpieces and other items. He also has some great youtube videos... great guy, radios have been flawless.

I have heard awesome things about him. His youtube video's are how I started out in the Moto industry. And here I am almost 7 years later still working on Moto ;)

Wow, I thought I was unique LOL. I also started by watching him and his rehousing tutorials a while back when I used to sell repaired XPR/APX radios on eBay and now, 2 years later, I work for a Moto shop installing and maintaining systems that I couldn't have even dreamed of back in my eBay days.

With the XE500 will an XPR7550e be confused by the 16 channel knob on the mic since the 7550 can unlimited channels on a zone. Anyone tried this? I like the XE500 but I fear they won't work with the 7550e

Did you ever learn, from personal experience or otherwise, whether the XE500 will work with an XPR7550E?

I have not with the XE500 but the XE RSM does work with the XPR7550e. It has some quirks but nothing that defeats the purpose of the mic. Good solid mic and worth the $150 I paid for it. Flashlight is a nice little feature that I like.
If I were to guess I would say the XE500 will NOT work with the 7550e. At least not the one with the channel knob on it. Reason being is the 7550e allows more than 16 channels in a zone. I think the radio would freak out if it was connected to that mic. Will update if I ever find out.

You can recase an APX pretty cheap, if your worried about scratching it up. I've got an APX600BN and APX4000 two knob. The 6000BN has a noisy audio amp (hissing), and horrible loud volume, pumping too much audio from a too small speaker, same as the 8000. The 4000 has clean full quieting audio, and is a lot better at being a handheld little scanner than the 8000 which would be more at home on a belt. Wish they would put the multi-bands into an APX4000 cdesign.
