ARC 996 Basic Software for Uniden BCD996T (original 996).

I have connected to four different USB Ports on my PC.

Each time I try to "Read from Scanner", I get the error message:
"PC Serial Port not available or used by other software".

How do I correct this?

Thanks!!

The one thing you didn't say anything about was loading drivers. USB cables usually come with drivers that simulate the presence of a COM port. You must load the drivers before plugging the cable in.

Checking Device Manager in Windoze is a good way to see what port(s) it allocated. The process is dumb - it can and sometimes does allocate a port that's already taken up by something else

You must also set up the front/back ports on the scanner - this article from our wiki has information on this...

Com Port ARC996 Basic

Thank you for the reply. I'll use the link you provided.

I should have mentioned 3-things....

1. I got a pop up in the lower right hand of the PC screen. I only glanced at it but it looke like it was sync-inc or saying the port was ok.

2. The error message referred to a serial port. I'm not using a serial port.

3. I'm using the 996 cable that plugs to the front of the scanner to a USB on the computer.

Do I need to change a setting inthe ARC996 utilities on my PC??

I appreciate your info.
