Athens, GA EMS

Can anyone provide me with an overview and information about EMS (both ground and air services) in and around (within about 45 minutes drive) the Athens, GA area.

Specifically information about setup, call volume, employment, and pay.

Pay is totally up to the agency. EMT is always going to be lower than Paramedic (that's why I got my Paramedic!). Call volume also depends on how many trucks they are running. Also, if you are an EMT, you may get relagated to gimp calls instead of the better calls (that is if you are an EMT).

I was 11568 EMT-A and 901 Paramedic.

St. Mary's has a helipad, but I've never heard any air traffic for it, and I've been flying in Athens for nearly a couple of years. Most of the EMS ground traffic I've heard is tending to drunks on campus and/or tailgaters.

Athens Regional Medical Center and St. Mary's Hospital recently discontinued their EMS service to Athens-Clarke and Oconee Counties. A private contractor, National EMS, provides it now. You can go to their website, nationalems.com for employment info. I think National also provides service to Morgan County. Most all other counties around Athens provide EMS service through county government.

You can't monitor National. They use SouthernLinc.

Ive tracked heli's to the VFW and at St Mary's, must be on some of the old hospital freq's.

National EMS also handles Rockdale County, I believe, but they are dispatched on the Rockdale Co 800 MHz

That's right, it was simulcast on the HEAR frequency also, 155.340

National EMS currently provides service to ACC National EMS > Home
The surrounding counties provide their own. If you are looking for fast paced go to Gwinett county they probably pay the highest followed by Hall County, Jackson, Barrow, .

As to Air Services Air Methods - Defenders of Tomorrow - Air Medical Transport has a base in Gainesville GA
