you came here looking for good advice.
you got advice that you don't like.
maybe, just maybe it is good advice.
no one here knows how horrible or great your capabilities are.
the radio might not work now, but by all means, take it apart and make sure it never works again.
i hate wasting money, but if you break it that is a total waste, if they fix it, it is money well spent.

You say you don't trust Uniden repair service, but you don't have any idea as to A) what is wrong with the scanner and B) how to repair it. My suggestion is to bite the bullet and send it to Uniden for a proper repair. If you do, you'll be a hell of a lot closer to a properly functioning SDS100 than you are now.

TOTALLY AGREE. Although there’s not much to choose from when you need a repair, Uniden is the most familiar with the radio-they built it, and you didn’t.

Please come on back here and tell us when you end up bricking your radio.
I love a good we told you so.....

This forum is a wealth of info - and pissing on those here isn't a real good idea if you ever actually need future help..

I thought I'd share with you and the rest of the self proclaimed "know-it-all's" on here that the scanner is now working as it should. Yes I fixed it myself and managed to do so without your vast knowledge. Fortunately there is a wealth of information online outside of this forum. And as for pissing on anyone here and needing help in the future, that is quite laughable as I won't bother the technological masterminds that troll the forums here again.

This thread can now be closed.

Or you could be the bigger person and give back to the community by explaining how you repaired it.

Just a thought.

Let’s all try to help one another. Tearing each other down isn’t useful to anyone. We are better than that as a community.

Otherwise... since you are in Arizona, for future knowledge you always have access to Heatsync Labs to utilize tools and knowledge of others to help with DIY stuff.

Nobody tried to tear him down we all tried to let him know this was not a do it yourself project he started with the attitude towards us telling him that it was well above most skill level.
Comment was meant for everyone. :)

Anyone seeking advice on this forum should try to be receptive to whatever that advice may be. Keep an open mind and prepare to read replies and opinions that run counter to your beliefs and intentions. This, or any other OP can forum-shop all they want, but the results may be the same.

Still with the attitude.
EVERY day, someone with a problem is helped here - every day.

You pontificate that we are all "self proclaimed know-it-alls", yet we take our time to help people get things working (every day).
Most all inquiries here end positively, because people here actually know these radios - or have experienced the same problem and GLADLY share their solutions.

I certainly hope that when you do need advice in the future - it's met with crickets.
I'll refrain from what I want to actually say to you... (ends with off)

I would strongly recommend not trying to repair it yourself. I have extensive soldering skills, but I do not personally own the correct tools to solder micro surface mount components. I no longer have access to those expensive tools. It is quite easy to accidentally bridge adjacent circuit board solder tabs that are just a few microns apart, and then very difficult to remove the solder bridge with conventional tools and do no damage to the circuit board. Trying to solder pins on very small surface mount ribbon cables and ICs with lots of pins a few microns apart is not something for the inexperienced without proper tools. I do attempt repairs with conventional soldering tools for large surface mount components and on inexpensive electronics with micro components, but I would never attempt a repair on my very expensive SDS100 without access to shop tools I no longer have. Uniden's flat rate repair is a bargain. I sent in a BCD396XT a few years ago and back then the $60 was well worth it. Also if the technician working on it makes a mistake and we're to damage the board, the tech would be able to replace the board. I once repaired an old Canon DSLR for my son-in-law with conventional tools, but he was going to toss it anyway if we couldn't fix it. That was quite a challenge. There were broken pins for the CF memory card connector I replaced. Took me several hours and swore I would never do something that difficult again without a soldering station for surface mount.

You didn't say how you fixed it. Must have been a very simple problem and not a cold solder joint issue as you suspected.
