Can anyone explain to me how you're supposed to program the digital awin frequencies..I have a triple trunking digital base and I have not had any luck, Anyone mind explaining what I have to do down to the T please!? Any help is appreciated. My county (Greene County) are still using Analog but the boarding county (Craighead county) are all digital, I cannot hear them without this! Can anyone help???

996

BC996 I believe with about 50 feet of RG 59 U cable....and just a basic outdoor base antenna. I've got a Radio Shack Triple Trunking in another room off the same antenna with the same cable and it's just analog. I can't get much out of it either just locally only. Everyone else is so fuzzy it's ridiculous! Hills? Terrain? Coax? Numerous things?

I can't help on the uniden, was hopeing it was a pro96 and I could send files that would help you get started on the Craighead System.

Pro96

Well I'm planning on getting a pro 96 just as soon as they get a little bit cheaper on price...They're almost $500 here right now.. I think the longer they're on sale the cheaper they'll get... When they get a little Cheaper I'm getting one...Until then, It's not that important until my county here switches then it'll be a half to case, lol Thanks anyways though...If you want to go ahead and send them I'll save them or I can wait I have no idea how long it will be though.. So what ever you want to do..

O.K. I will make up a C and add all the TG's. I don'\t think the price is going to go down because it it digital but there are some used ones for around $330. floating around on eBay. You will need an interface (Programing) cable and Don Starr's Win96 programing sofdtware to use this file. PM me with your email address and I will send it to you as soon as I make it up.

You probably want to skip getting a Pro 96 if you want to heard Troop C.

Troop C uses 700 MHz channels and the Pro 96 will not pick them up.

Someone correct me if I am in error.

I have a GRE PSR 500 and it works great........

I have used the CSV tower that lists all the towers in the database, and gotten that
to upload to the scanner. I show talkgroups in the programming. However, I hear nothing.

In the BCTOOL program it lists those (from the CSV file) as being 800 Mhz,
and the other option is P25, but it does not show P25 trunking.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Go to the AWIN page that list all of the frequencies, and all you have to do is just enter the Freq that are in RED, the scanner will do the rest.

Inquirer writes of antenna setup; "...off the same antenna with the same cable and it's just analog. I can't get much out of it either just locally only."

And how are the two hooked to the same antenna? Without isolation, or some form of matching, you may have created your own problem there.

I have had problems in the past with generic antennas on 800mhz systems, if you want to listen to 800 exclusively a yagi might be the answer

traveled across I-40 yesterday and listened from West Memphis to Fort Smith and the system sounds pretty good

the 996,396 and the gre PSR500 and PSR600 would be the radios that will work btw

if you have a 996T here is the AWIN Database i quickly set up.
it is not perfect but it worked yesterday and i was able to hear the system,

I'm in Cordova, TN and I listened to AWIN last night during the storm, via the Shell Lake site. Clear as a bell from agencies in Pine Bluff, Lonoke, County, Forrest City, West Memphis, and lots of state police and emergency management.

The system is supremely clear, even with the pretty weak signal I get.

Once the storm passed, it disappeared once again. :(

Do you or do you not have a digital scanner? I replied to another thread and gave you advice on purchasing a PSR 500. You signature doesn't list a digital capable radio.

Not yet, but as soon as I decide which one I want I'm getting one, I'm checking in on which is the best type and brand for what I need it to do at the moment, I'm narrowed down to either the 996 from RS or a PSR 500.. One of those two..I just want to get everything ready for when I get it I'll be ready to set it up..

The 996 is NOT a Radio Shack product, thank god. If you want a cell phone contract or a 9v battery, go to Radio Shack. If you want a serious scanner, get a Uniden BCT996T or 396T. You will not be disappointed.

I heard that GRE thing is great too and I'm sure it is, but I can't say from experience.

Btw, do any of the RS scanners handle P25, the system AWIN uses?

The Pro 96 / 2096 will - I don't think they'll pick up the 700 MHz stuff though.

I can't see why anyone would buy a Pro96 / 2096 for $500 now that the PSR 500 is out.....unless they were in Radio Shack and that $500 was just burning a hole in their pocket - or they just didn't know any better.
