I just remodeled the shack a short time ago

but the wife complained that there were too many wires visible.

There's your problem right there.

My wife says the enclosed porch is hers and the computer room mine. She always says of the porch, her room, her rules. Same with the car and the kitchen. So when she complains about my scanner, sdr and antenna wires in the computer room, I say, and with a smile, My Room, My Rules. :D

With the amount of stuff she lets me buy and the stuff she puts up with I have no problem with a couple rules here and there, even in MY room.

That looks properly good. Where did get those rack panels for the gear, and how deep are said panels? Also, it looks so odd to me to see a sign for US460 outside of the Virginias, hahahaha.

The rack panels come from a variety of sources. The ones with the DIN sleeves come from Scanner Master, the one with the SDS200 comes from Alberta Radio Supply and the others from NorthComm.

The panels themselves are just 1/8 inch or so thick. If you are referring to the cabinet it is a standard network cabinet, so is less deep than a server cabinet.

As for the US-460 sign, my wife is from eastern Kentucky and grew up near 460. It used to extend across Illinois but was removed west of Frankfort in the mid 1970's. This sign assembly was photographed in Mt. Vernon, IL sometime before then.

Cool. Many thanks. I'm planning on incorporating some equipment rack panels in my new desk, whenever I get that far in the build.

Rich, can you post all of your handheld's,when you have time.
Sure!
I pretty much cleared out most of my older ones over the last year and kept a few that I like and use:

SDS100
BCD436HP
BCD325P2
BC125AT
Icom R5 (2)
AT D-868 (DMR HT)
Alinco DJ-C7

All of the various GRE, RS, KW and other brands have been sold, traded or given away.

Looks great Rich!

Hope to see you at the next CARMA get together, whenever that is (if I can make it).

If you supply the bourbon, I'll bring the wire ties. My OCD is kicking in looking at the back of that cabinet.

Thanks Rich! I’m assuming you will fly from in from AZ so will not have your awesome mobile shack to see in person again.

For anyone that hasn’t seen pics, check his out. I think it puts most public safety (or private) vehicle installs to shame by comparison.
Yesp, flying in the week before and helping the kids out. I should be there about 3 weeks in total.

That's the whole idea behind that, let the mess be in back and not in front.

That said, every time I tried to neaten things up something else got messy. With the new 3u/3bay cabinet coming I am going to use all new cabling and cut them to fit correctly with wires long enough to properly dress.

Rich @N9JIG do you have another mobile other than the van or Honda Pilot? I remember those two. Is one of those what he's speaking of?

This is the current mobile shack in my Odyssey. The 996P2 has been replaced by a second BCD536HP and the cables have been completed. (this pic is before the antennas were installed so mag-mounts were used temporarily.)
