UPMan, since you seem to know what you're talking about do you know how I can have my BC246T just scan one system instead of going through them all? I spent all night reading the manual, the online "easier to read manual", etc with no luck.

The closest thing I've come to is setting the hold time to something really high (like 200 seconds) to have it keep scanning the system I've chosen.

Assign that one system to its own System Quick key. Then turn off all the other quick keys (by pressing their number while scanning).

Let's pretend I'm a retard for a second. :)

Would you mind walking me through this step-by-step?

[MENU] --> "Program System" --> Select the system you want to change --> "Edit Sys Option" --> "Set Quick Key" --> Select the quick key for the system

You could also lock all of the other systems out. If you hold down the func key (on the side of the radio) while scanning and use the scroll knob, you can select systems, when you are on the system you want to not scan, hit the lockout button. It will have a L/O on the bottom of the right hand corner of the screen when the system is locked out (it won't scan it).

scanfan03: I locked out the systems I don't want to here when I'm in my area, so in that respect I'm good to go. I'll unlock them when I'm in that area.

I set San Jose system as Quick Key 4. Now when I press scan it scans through all my systems and the number 4 appears when it goes through San Jose.

I thought Quick Key would let me press number 4 and it would instantly scan San Jose's system.

Am I wrong?

Press all of the other keys. Quick keys toggle systems on and off. Press 4 and it is off, press it again and it is on. Same with the other SQK (system quick keys), turn them all off first then just press the ones you want to hear.

You need to set different quick key(s) for the other systems. The scanner will scan all the systems assigned to the enabled quick keys. So, if some are assigned to 9 and SJ is assigned to 4, if "9" and "4" are turned on, all systems are scanned. Press [9] and the "9" disappears and now only SJ (assigned to 4) is scanned.

There are 2 freq.s in the 860MHz range I can hear -- noisy, but readable -- on the 246T without an antenna -- YET, Close Call, with a Duck, or a temporary outdoor whip antenna at about 15 feet has never picked up either.
Also, it seems pretty broad; If CC picks up a station you may have, for example, 154.755 the correct freq. plus 154.750, 154.745, 154.760, so at times its a guessing game as to correct one. :)

That's because NEITHER signal is 20 dB stronger than the other. The CC circuitry simply cannot 'see the trees for the forrest'. Just the same as you can't hear two people talking the same level with the same pitch voice in your ear.

As for the frequencies, refer to the FCC allocation tables. There will never be a signal (well, not a legal one) on 154.750, 154.745, or 154.760. The scanner is seeing the sidebands of the FM signal. It happens - especially on weaker signals (weaker in nearfield receiver terms, not in scanner reception terms).

I didn't know if there was/wasn't a licensed user on 154.755 :) I just picked the numbers out of the air, hence the "for example".
