What is the scan rate of this thing when scanning multiple systems at one time. When I have more than one system selected the display swithes from system name to the other every 2 secs or so. is that as fast as it scans across systems or is it just a display issue? How does it perform scanning in and out of trunked systems (ie trunked to conventional and back). Surely its a lot faster than it looks, especially considering the search rate.

The scan rate is listed in the manual under Specifications (100 conventional channels per second), but the problem you are describing sounds like you have the hold time set at 2 seconds. For conventional, set it as zero seconds. The unit WILL still scanner all the channels once. For trunked systems that are not that busy, set it at 1 second.
