I have a BC350C. It does a reasonable job, but I need to add a second scanner for my purposes. I want one that will allow me program alpha tags on an internet re-broadcast of air traffic chatter.

I'm looking at the BCT8. I gather it has a DB9 connection at the back and I assume it handles all the Uniden protocols.

With all things being equal, no chanage in antenna setup etc, will the BCT8 provide a better quality of sound signal than the BC350C, or will I have to upgrade to a better (more expensive) radio to get noticeable sound quality improvement?

Guess what I want to know is, if the more expensive Uniden radios get you better sound quality, or just more channels, frequency capability, trunking etc. etc.

Thanks

Sound quality is dependant upon the speaker involved.. size, impedence, power capability.... One factor in scanners,.. the larger the scanner, the bigger the speaker, thus more sound and better quality. From what I have read about the BCT-8, its speaker is better than the older 350 series.

When it comes to audio rebroadcast vias the net,.. it comes down to your computer versus your connection.

Sound quality then depends on the speed of your feed, buffer size, etc.....
If you have a good high speed connection,.. and your host server has plenty of bandwidth,... then the sound heard by others monitoring your feed will be very good. When it comes to internet sounds,.. there is a whole different judgement than actual sound quality with a scanner speaker.

If you're wanting a radio with alfa tags then the BCT8 is not what you want. It does not do alfa tags.

Dwayne,

Thanks for this. I'm still not completely clear on Alpha Tags. I understand there is a difference between Alpha Tags as displaced on the scaner screen itself, and the ability to program a "Tag" attached to a certain frequency that can be viewed over the internet using the audio software Winamp.

I gather that I can program through computer software and associate a Tag, (specific text) to a scanned frequency fed through my web server with the BCT8. I don't care if the Tag actually appears on the scanner itself.

Have I explained this clearly. Am I making sense, and am I correct. I'm kinda new to the scanner side of things, but definitely want to buy a scanner that lets me program "a tag" visible by internet listeners to my site using Winamp.

Thanks
