bc895xlt - help!

Just got a lightly used bc895xlt - I'm a newbie to scanning.
None of the keys on the face seem to work - seems to be stuck in 'trunk' mode.
How do I get this thing back to basic operation??? (no button pushed works.)

There is a key lock switch on the back panel near the power jack. Make sure it is off.

The HOLD and LIMIT keys on the left side of the front face sometimes get stuck. The pointy end of the key can become wedged, making the key always active and preventing any other key from working.

Also see if it is in remote mode - If 'rmt' is on the front display, press the 'alrt/rmt' key until it beeps 73 Mike

To get out of trunked mode, just press TRUNK (it toggles).

Could you possibly be stuck in "remote" mode, where the
radio disables the keyboard because it's expecting control
over the serial port? You'll see RMT on the display; if so, just
press ALRT/RMT once.

Update - a little fiddling with the hold button and the keys came to life.

My 895 does that too, but fiddling with the button unsticks it. I could fix it but I hardly touch the radio - it sits on one channel all day long. Poor unloved old 895...

You might have to disassemble the radio to fix this. Just be careful and keep track of what screws go where. With a bit of luck and a steady hand, you should be able to unstick that key within a matter of minutes - the radio is big and easy to work with, and you can add a discriminator tap in there too while you're at it if you're feeling froggy - do a google search for destructions on that.

Bright side is at least there's no warranty to worry about voiding on that bad boy - it's WAY too old...
