Hey Thought everyone that uses the Uniden BCD325P2 would want to know this fix, mine would not receive nothing at home but when I went to town it worked fine, so I started messing with it to try and get it to receive better and I did now it works at my house 18 miles from town and I am happy, all I had to do was take it apart and run a piece of cap wire around the outside of the circuit board and hooked one end to the metal ground next to the antenna port and went down one side and crossed it above battery’s and up the other side and man what a diffrence it made… like a new scanner, I hated it before I figured it out…hope this helps others on their receive…!

Is that mod some kind of counterpoise?

No problem here either, but then again I use external antennas. Your mod sounds great for those stuck in a rental.

What frequencies have you been trying to receive and what have you been using for an antenna? I see you are in WV, so are you trying to receive SIRN or something else?

Why didn't you just repair the BNC jack? Clearly it sounds like the connector (ground side) solder joint broke.

Part of me wants to stop following this, but in the immortal words of Captain Kirk:

Yes I monitor the sirn network and it’s not as easy as the old analog system to monitor and it’s all on UHF

No the ground was still connected to the antenna port but the scanner had no receiver unless you were like 3 miles from the town I bought all kinds of rubber antennas to see if that would help but no go… the only thing that would work was a base scanner factory antenna pulled out to around 13” and then I could receive from my home but I hated that… so I took it apart and checked all connections and everything was good, so I figured I would make a 1/4 wave ground inside the scanner and that fixed my issue, even the 3” rubber stubby antenna works now…!

I will try to get some pictures of my mod for everyone to view but I hated this 325p2 scanner when I first got it and was going to send it back but now it’s actually better than my bcd436hp and it to dosnt pickup at all where I live, but I’m happy now… !

That one tower covers a wide area. What's topography like between "town" and your home? Any mountains between you and the site that may be hindering your RX?

This is what I put inside the scanner but you really have to get it behind all the standouts to get the case to go back together and only one end, the long end is hooked to the screw beside the antenna port… the other end is not connected to nothing… so in theory I would say it’s like a 1/4 wave length for a ground… and really the scanner only has a small stainless plate for the factory ground….hope this helps
