Battery voltage. If I were to hazard a guess, it looks to be two disposable batteries, almost fully charged, each cell rated at 1.5 volts new. Or rechargeable batteries, each cell at 1.2-1.3 volts full charged, with a degree of measuring accuracy factored in...

One of the drawbacks of the BCD325P2 is battery life... but it is what it is, and I’m ok with it, I just carry spares. Uniden presented this scanner as an upgrade to the BCD396XT, which had 3 AA batteries and lasted longer, at least that’s my impression. There are longer lasting AA batteries, better mah ratings, you might look at to improve length of play between charges. Is the longer play time worth the added expense of these batteries? It’s a judgement call. I use the Everyready lithium-ion AA cells when I attend events such as airshows. They are disposables but I write it off as one of the expenses of the outing... and this year, I’m saving due to no airshows so far because of Covid-19!

i have the said scanner and for the price it is good, as mentioned the batteries are a issue AND no separate charging port.
the 396xt is a good radio, and i had no issues with it at all.
this one is good with all the upgrades, but falls back on power flaws, if they could of gone with 3 batteries, this would be perfect.
it takes alot of power to decode drm and phase 2.

I have 4 sets of theese batteries that I uses and charge on a rotational basis. I usally keep 1 or 2 pairs of batteries in my pocket sometimes more when I'm leaving the house. Most of the time they last anywhere from 3-6 hours depending of how much activity there is.

Ugh. Scanners with 3 batteries bug me. Good rechargeables come 4 in a pack. Anyone see the issue?

With that said, though, battery life on the BCD325P2 *is* much shorter than on, for example, a WS1040 that has four batteries. Of course the Whistler is about three times the volume of the Uniden too, so you are trading size for battery life. The 325P2 plus a pair of extra batteries is still a lot smaller than the 1040!

i was told there would be no math...
if the radio uses 3 batteries and they come in 4's...try buying 12.
that is what i do every couple of years for the 396T and the XT.
i check them about every month and group them in three's.
top 3, next 3, ETC.
the reason is for longer running time.
in a year they go from 2350 to 2500 down to 1600 and 2200
under 1600 they go to the solar lights.

Oh I know. But at one time I had a two hand-held scanners that took four batteries, two that took two and one that took three.

So I sold the one that took three.

alright, to figure this one out i will need a computer, calculator, abacus, roman numerals, and two free hands...
just buy a bunch of batteries and keep them charged.

I just leave the scanner plugged in while at home or work, and keep a few pair of batteries in my bag.

Or buy one of the cellphone recharge packs for $20 and run it for 24 hours. 4 AA batteries would not charge from a USB port (well it would but the charge time would not make it feasible) 3 AA on USB yes it will charge but look at the BCD436 charge times.

I also like the two battery receivers. I own the 325P2 , an Icom R5 and a Yaesu VR120. I also have the 396T. When I used my 396T for my primary scanner I had my 12 batteries numbered 1 through 12 so I could keep track of charging and usage evenly. What a PITA.

I use a 12V Dewalt battery for my Palstar R30, too. I just used it a few weeks ago during a power outage.
