have one trunk and one conventional system enabled by quick keys. i can hear only slices of transmissions as the scanner keeps scanning. programmed by radio reference using arc-xt pro. scanner won't stay on a call.

Welcome to the RR forums. It would help if you provided specifics on what system(s) & conventionals you're having trouble with. Given your location I'll assume you're scanning Rock Island County on SARA Network? There are a lot of fully encrypted (mode "TE") talkgroups in your county which no scanner can decrypt. This may be the cause of the symptoms you're facing with your scanner. You'll only be able to pick up mode "T" talkgroups. A 2nd possibility on this system may be simulcast distortion, although both sites in Rock Island County appear to be single-site so that may not be the issue at hand...

Also, check to make sure none of the Priority Modes are enabled which will cause the transmissions to be interrupted.

To begin with, set squelch to 2. I use ARC-XT also. If you attach your RSF programming file(s), I will check it (them) for problems. You will need to right click on the file and Send to Compressed (zipped) folder to be able to attach it. Click on Attach files and open the zipped folder. Here is a PDF file which will answer all of your questions about using quick keys:
thanks for the quick response. i have L/O all the police and sheriff. i am also using broadcastify cell scanner app.and it's busy / busy... i should be able to program those the same as who ever is feeding that service??? but the main problem is "won't stop scanning"
I have not set any priorities and after a reset they should be off. i will check that.

update... sending my rsf. i have group 3 of system 1, and groups 1 and 2 of system 2 active using quick keys.

and make sure the HOLD time is set to 2 and not to negative(-2).
that make the radio resume scanning even if someone is talking.
hold and delay are not the same,
HOLD, Enter the hold time (0-255 seconds) you desire and press E/yes to save and exit.
and that is how long the radio just scans that system. zero is a good setting.
DELAY, Scroll to the desired delay time (-10, -5, -2, 0, 1, 2, 5, 10, or 30 secs.) and press E/yes to save and exit.
that is like the delay of old, the radio waits for a reply and then starts to scan,
however, if set to a negative number it starts to scan no matter what. (forced scan) 2 is a good setting.

I made a couple of minor changes. See if it makes any difference. Make sure your squelch is set to 2.

While scanning, do you see NFM or the control channel frequency on the third line from the bottom? If you see NFM, there is a good chance you are experiencing simulcast distortion.
nope. lets try this...one system active (conv) three groups active group 3 has the weather channel. the weather is a constant broadcast, so it stops on group 3 (weather) now i get slices of the weather it's still scanning groups 1 ans 2. " it will not stop scanning" does the same with trunking system. i have reset the scanner and loaded the modified files.
Close Call & weather alert priorities are turned off?
thanks but i am not using cc or pri's or alerts. i entered the weather freaq myself. while it is slicing the weather broadcast, there is no other hit or audio. "it just keeps scanning and slicing"
