DaveIN you may have a point. Under Device Manager what should my com1 settings be? I only have 1 com port BTW.

The comm port in your Windows setting should be the same as the comm port setting in the UASD. If you are using a USB to serial converter, make sure the UASD has the correct comm port selected.

I upgraded to the latest firmware for the BCD396T and I must say, the Ohio MARCS system sounds much better. No problems with it so far.

How would you compare it to the PRO-96 audio?

I had a Pro-96, and now the BCD396T. Pro-96 has much better audio, period. 396T is much more fun (if you like pushing buttons, and programming), and portable!

That is a sad statement for Uniden.

So, does this update improve the audio at all? So far I have seen mixed stories.

I've noticed in the past that if you use a bigger speaker and place it in a bigger box you get much better range of volume, and sound.

If you take the same speaker and stuff in a smaller shallower box the sound will degrade.

So maybe the size of the Pro-96 has a lot to do with it. Anyhow, sad? For who? Uniden just earned $500 of my hard earned money! And like anything the 396T has it's short comings, but I'm still smiling at having one.

Nash, Tn Mixed Mode 3600 Worse after update

Well I was very surprised to hear how my 396 was receiving Nashville today, figured I would take the plunge and update. Well I will be rolling back to the previous firmware update.
Setting in my shop listening as I always do I was lucky to keep the TG's stable enough to listen.
I still appreciate Uniden continuing to support the radio, but this update just was not for me.
Any other's listening to the Nashville system seen any other changes if they did the update.

If you hadn't tried it yet, try setting the modulation to FM for the system above. I've read in prior posts that this actually works. Let us know if it improves.

Yes. A lot better than its previous performance, but still not perfect.

Went back to 1.11.03 and all is well for me
Yeah I had tried all kinds of tweeks to redownloading the UASD file with the FM srttings to trying the manual adjustments it just would not cooperate.
Switched back and no problems.

I also tried the new firmware version 1.13.17. And i found that digital audio was totally dropped, which has it's good and bad points. Also noticed that the sensitivity or receptions worse off than the firmware version 1.11.03 At lease with the firmware version 1.11.03 had crisp and clearer and louder audio. Turn the AGC on and off, i see no difference But i do like some of the changes in firmware 1.13.17 But now i will reverted back to firmware version 1.11.03

Went Back

Hi All!

I put the new update on my scanner, but I did not like the "pop" every time it broke squelch. It was not as bad under the previous update. I had to turn up the volume two or three more clicks just to hear it. Uniden does a great job with the radio, it can do so much. It would be nice if version 1.13.18 would address the "pop" and the volume. The "pop" is very bad when you use a earphone like I do when I am out and about. The radio has low volume as it is (being an old man with a hearing problem). I use a radioshack amp. speaker in my truck. Even with the amp. speaker, the vloume is low even with a setting of "11". Uniden keep up the good work but please reajust the software for these 2 problems. That is all that I have found that I can not live with. So back I go taking off the 1.13.17 update update. Thanks much.

Al

I meant it is sad for someone to say that a RS/GRE sounds better than a Uniden, not that the RS/GRE is better. I would much rather have my BCD396T. Personally, I don't own a RS/GRE (anymore), so I have nothing to compare my 396. Actually, it sounds fine to me, except for the occasional digital sounding P25 and trunked problems, but the audio seems fine.
