I'm not being contradictory of the SDS models as they are fantastic however I have two 996P2 scanners and monitor the Illinois Starcom Digital Simulcast system and have no problems at all and it's all got todo with location ,...I am near one of many towers of Starcom but the others are a distance away and provide no interference so if you have some scanner friends near by you can check with on there receiving you can save some money,,,,

@carterbkk your Police and fire dispatch are listed as DMR conventional. That said you'll need the DMR upgrade for whichever scanner you choose: $60.00 if you purchase direct from Uniden. Don't buy as a bundle from retailers, they'll mark the upgrade prices up sometimes by $25 or more.

I don't see any simulcast sites in Union or surrounding counties in Arkansas. The LWIN system in Louisiana uses simulcast sites. Union and the surrounding counties use a lot of DMR. As Whiskey3JMC stated, you will need the DMR upgrade for whichever scanner you get. The 436 would be OK for your location in Arkansas. If you want to monitor LWIN in Louisiana, you would probably need the SDS100.

Yes, a 436HP with the DMR upgrade should work just fine
I’m very familiar with the rules and I have a friend that’s using a baofeng for the fire radio here do you know which one would work the the local LEO? Thank you. Don’t know how bold got turned on Ty

The LWIN system is not simulcast. There is one in Jefferson parish. There may be others, but lwin is clear with some DIGITAL.

Well can’t really come up with the funds for that currently
For your location, a BCD325P2 with the DMR upgrade will work. You will need to use ARC XT or ProScan software. Both are excellent programs and have a free trial period to decide which one you like better. I use Butel ARC XT Basic for my BCD325P2 and BCD996P2.

You're going to need P-25 for the state police and DMR for your local PD. No baofeng is going to cover that. If you're after a hand held, the BCD325P2 recommended above with the DMR upgrade is going to be the cheapest way to go to cover both.
