Attempting to program several channels into my SDS 100. Arkansas state police and Arkansas game and fish are doing the same thing. Channels are programmed and all on. I have verified that they are not avoided and that service types are on. However, when I specifically try to select just those favorites, it gives me a “scan mode, nothing to scan”. Pictures for reference. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you select monitor and download in the profile editor before writing to the radio?

Did you try to ignore it and let the scanner continue? I’ve seen this but have been able to acknowledge it and move past it. Sorry, I don’t remember much more… I seem to recall it having to do with priority channels in FL’s that we turned off?

It would help to know your city and county and the sites you are using. Please attach your favorites list file so we can take a look at it. Go to the File tab in Sentinel and click on Export to hpe file (Favorites List). You will need to zip the exported file to be able to attach it. Click on Attach files and open the zipped file.

You have "Monitor Full Database" turned on and still getting a "Nothing to Scan" message? Do you have the Service Types turned on?

I was merely highlighting where download and monitor setting was.

Those are part of the AWIN trunked system so you will need to have some trunked sites being scanned and not all avoided. Start by not avoiding any sites from Arsenal up to Yancy and check if that works for you. You can avoid sites to speed up the scan cycle so begin doing that to sites that are obviously too far away from you.

I have tried turning quick keys off, made sure all scan modes are turned on, everything I have found. The Wiki link is a bit confusing to me but I'm trying to read through it and look at things.

Looking at your file, you have multiple Departments entered, including all of the State Police Troops. But you do not have any of the Sites. For a trunked system, such as ASP, you need to have both the departments you want to monitor, as well as the sites, which carry the actual radio traffic.

In the attached file, I added the AWIN sites for your county (Union) as well as the neighboring counties. Probably, some of these sites will be out of range for you. If so, either set them as Avoid, or delete them. I also added the specific talkgroups for your county & the surrounding counties, Some of these may also be out of range. Your Favorites list is not set to use Location Control. Should you desire to activate that, then the out of area departments (such as some of the ASP Troops) will not be scanned. Depending on what location and range you have set in your profile, some of the adjacent county sites, as well as their associated talkgroups, might also be ignored because they may be out of range.

You have all of the state police troop departments. But most of these, like the Troop A (Little Rock), and the Governor's Security Detail, will not be heard in your immediate area, unless a unit from one of the other areas was in your part of the state on official business. Unless one is in your vicinity, you will not hear them, regardless of how the scanner is programmed.

I uploaded that list to my scanner. I set avoids to everything but the state police channels and I am still getting the same message. I also looked at your lists compared to mine and could not find where I did not have any of the sites. When I programmed the channels originally, I copied them over from the AWIN group from the data base. I just made a favorites list just for the state police. My end goal was to be able to tune in and listen to just the state police if I wanted to or just the game and fish commission, etc.

The file attached to your earlier post (the one I originally replied to) only had departments for the various state police troops. There were no sites in the *.hpe file you attached.

Did you avoid everything on the file I attached, except for the state police troops? If you avoided the county talkgroups I included, as well as the sites, then you would get “nothing to scan”. To monitor a trunked system, you need sites, with their associated frequencies, as well as Departments containing the talkgroups in use in that area.

As far as the state police talkgroups, from your location, in southern Arkansas, you very likely would never hear many of the state police troops. Their talkgroups normally will only be used on the sites in their assigned area, and not moniterable in areas outside their assigned area. You were getting nothing to scan on the original file you posted because there were no sites included.

Remember that those are not specific “state police channels”. They are talkgroups, and their radio traffic is on those talkgroups ID’s, with the actual transmissions occurring on the frequencies in service at sites in their jurisdiction area. See the Wiki article ‘Trunking Basics’ for more on how trunk systems work.

This is how your original file looks when imported into Sentinel:

All of your entries are Departments. You do not have any sites programmed:
1743271334220.png
Without Sites, and their associated frequencies, all the programming in the world, using only Departments (and the talkgroups contained in each Department), you will still get "Nothing to Scan", and no transmissions heard.

Below is how the file I posted above looks in Sentinel:
1743272571277.png

It has Departments:
1743272708854.png
As well as Sites:
1743272780801.png
I used the sites listed for your county, as well as the adjacent counties. I also included the talkgroups listed for each county (which is it's Department). Those may not be in everyday use, but are available for use if needed to coordinate response to an incident, needing assistance from the adjacent counties, or the state police and other state agencies.

For your county, Union, there are a couple of talkgroups available on AWIN:
1743273237162.png
However, it appears that most of the activity, for both the county as well as your city, El Dorado, is handled using their DMR channels:
1743273400699.png
1743273442435.png
If you wanted to hear them, you would need the DMR Upgrade (if you do not already have it set up).

With the sites in your area programmed, you likely would only be able to monitor the State Police troop that covers your area, which according to the map, looks to be Troop F. If a unit from Troop G gets far enough east in their assigned area, some of their radio traffic might pop-up on one of the sites in your county & it's neighbors. You would not hear activity on any of the other Troops unless a unit from their area has come down to your area, and their radio affiliated with one of the sites within range for you.
