I may be the first Windows 8.1 install. I know the documentation said it was checked out only up to 7.
However all went well until I did the WIFI dongle update.
I got an error from the program that was quite lengthy.
I hit the "continue anyway" button and installed it on the radio.
It connected it to my network OK.
How will I know if there is a problem with the update?

Got the BCD-536HP hooked up. I have removed the SD card several times to make changes to my favorites. When I turn the scanner back on it asks me to set the time and date again. Is this only because I made changes to the favorites on the SD card?

TDMA generation II audio is muffled. It sounds exactly alike what the audio sounds like on my old BC796 when it was on an APCO 25 gen I.

There is another thread that UPMan started that details that the internal battery, which will maintain the clock, needs to trickle charge about 50 hours to get to full capacity. Some have posted in that thread that they charged for less and it is working for them but keep in mind that isn't fully charged. I bet that will fix your issue.

Thanks I'll leave it on to charge the battery.

Hmm, that's interesting.... I seem to recall mentioning that the scanner might nag folks about that clock setting exaclty the way nr2d described and everyone thought I was making a mountain out of a molehill. Well, maybe now folks will see what I was talking about.

In the case of the 536, unless it's unplugged and/or powered off for a week, it won't happen that much once the battery is charged. But since the handheld has to be plugged in to USB to charge the battery, and many users (myself included) won't be using the internal charger, the clock battery won't get charged. Hence, the scanner will ask for the date and time each time I turn it on. Again, not a huge deal, not trying to make waves or anything like that, but a future firmware update might be in order to address it as a simple user-interface enhancement, aka a user-selectable "bug-me-not" setting that will keep the scanner from asking for that until it's needed for recording (if so desired). That's all I'm saying.

BCD536HP Problems

Just got my scanner 1 hour ago. My last scanner was the BCD996XT. Never had a Home Patrol but I've had most other models since 2003. Most of what I can tell are good things about this scanner. Hopefully I am missing something on this 1 topics.

1) In Custom Search Mode you can't set the radio to Control Channel Only mode.

I plugged the 436 only to upload from Sentinel to the scanner. Maybe 60 seconds.
As I said in the clock setting post, as long as you have batteries in the scanner, it will charge the internal battery.

Take another...

Sounds like the 536 works a bit differently then, but who knows. Again, it's not a big deal so I'll shut up about it I guess. :)

Thats a loud system on the PSR 800. Does the system break up or sound garbled too?

Hahaha now THIS I like! Could be posted in many threads... :D

On a positive note, it is good to see interest and excitement for new scanners coming to market. But yes, sometimes a chill pill is just what the doctor ordered :D

Problems here also with the dongle update on Windows 8. I received the error message and continued also, but didn't feel like I had any confirmation that it had worked so I didn't install it on the scanner. I will try to plug it in tonight, but am curious how I will know for sure.

Run it in compatibility mode or right click and run as administrator. You should be able to right click on icon and select properties. Select compatibility mode and use WinXP/SP3 or Windows 7. One will work.

Where do you download Sentiental? or does the scanner come with the program CD?
