First, let me preface this post by giving UPman and his team credit for doing their best to push the scanning hobby forward. I doubt its easy to do so on limited resources in a niche market but they've tried their very best to give us(the consumers) what we want. This rollout has been far from perfect but I know in the end they will do right by us.
Anyway, I'm a new owner of two BCD536HP units and am experiencing another relatively challenging audio problem not previously addressed here (in addition to the known headphone issue etc).
On both of my units, the quality of the speaker out when running the scanner into a computer is OK at best. I'm going to be spending the next week or two troubleshooting various gain levels, computer input levels, boost levels etc but needless to say my 396XT and 996XTs sounded way better in my opinion. (I've been using uniden scanners for 6+ years on my LAPD Feed http://www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/3711/?rl=rr ) This however is not the problem I'm facing.
I noticed last night, that when using the scanner in serial mode (to take advantage of alpha tags etc...) the speaker output level goes down significantly. For example, when my usb cable isn't connected to the scanner and I'm using it in Scannercast or RadioFeed just directly (no alpha tags) I keep the scanner volume at either 8 or 9 with the input in the computer around 50%(no boost). When the USB cable is connected, and the scanner is in serial mode (regardless of if alpha tag usage is selected or not in the application) the speaker out volume drops so low that I have to crank the scanner volume to 18 or 19 and boost the computer input to 90% (and boost 10%).
Anyone else experiencing this? Needless to say this is very disappointing and concerning. I've now spent well over $1200 on new Uniden Scanners that have almost more problems than new features.....
Any help/thoughts/ideas appreciated
