Curious to know if the new BCD996P2 differs in size from the BCD996XT. I'm assuming that it's keeping the same face size (7.2" wide and 2.2" high), but has the depth changed from 5.9" or so? It might make a difference in my mounting location.

Anyone got a ruler handy? I haven't been able to find the specs anywhere...

Thanks!

From the 996P2 owner's manual:

Size: 7.2 in (W) x 5.9 in (D) x 2.2 in (H) (without antenna)
184 mm (W) x 151 mm (D) x 56 mm (H) (without antenna)

I'm guessing that Uniden has been trying to keep the sizes of their mobile scanners either exactly the same or pretty close going as far back as the 796 Model (even the 780 is real close).

Keeping scanner sizes the same is helpful to the public safety community, particularly those using consoles in their vehicles. Avoids having to buy new faceplates.

More than that, it means you don't have to make new parts - just use the ones you have. That saves a lot in R&D, and means parts will be available longer and for older models. It's a win-win-win.

As of the BCD996T (circa 2005) we moved to a DIN/ISO size for mobile (exception of BC355x models).
