In looking at the Uniden website, the 996p2 is no longer listed under SHOP ONLINE/RADIO SCANNERS and has been moved to the INFO ONLY page. Is it obsolete now, and would the "least expensive" base/mobile P25 Phase2 scanner be the 536HP?

This is a recurring question, although I couldn't find any of the multiple other threads.

Uniden prioritizes supplying their resellers product over selling them directly. The fact that you cannot buy a BCD996P2 directly from them does not indicate that the model is discontinued. A quick Internet search brought up numerous places where you can buy one today.

Oh, and (other than for the SDS100/200) the prices on the Uniden site are quite a bit higher than what resellers are charging.

Progline: I saw the same thing you did.
If they discontinued that BCD996P2, then Uniden America Corporation of America has to literally have their head examined.

I did notice that they are still available from multiple online sources (new old stock?).

My concern is that if production has been discontinued, this may indicate an upcoming lack of factory support, for both maintenance or upgrades (NXDN and/or DMR)? I'm not sure how long Uniden supports discontinued products (my BC760XLT is loooooong past support, LOL).

This is the first thread I've seen inquiring about the 996P2. There are discontinue threads here for just about every other model in Uniden's line up :ROFLMAO:

The answer is very simple. Note the words "SHOP ONLINE" at Uniden's store site.

You cannot shop online for a product they don't have "in their store" at that time.

I have seen items appear and disappear (like the SDS scanners) from the SHOP ONLINE tab. No biggie, with part shortages it's understandable. This is the first time I've seen this model moved to the INFO ONLY/DISCONTINUED page, with all the other older scanners (like the 996T and 996XT, Home Patrol 1, etc). And a disclaimer box that it cannot be purchased. Which sure sounds like they've dropped it. I guess no one from Uniden monitors this forum, so I'll give them a call and see what they say and post the reply here.

Does NOT say discontinued says "can not be purchased on this site"

Just to put a ribbon on this, I spoke with Uniden Customer Support a couple of weeks ago and they confirmed the 996p2 has been discontinued. Oh well.

Guarantee it will be relaunched, with exact same configuration, packaging and features in the very near future.

The person you spoke to just wanted to give you an answer that you were looking to hear.
