Hello. A friend of mine just got a BCD996P2 and I am setting it up for him and after I got it set up with a couple Trunking banks and one bank just conventional frequencies. I only have just the 2 banks on, for some reason it’s only scanning that one bank and not the other, like I will key up on a channel in that conventional bank while I have the 2 banks on, and it doesn’t stop on that channel in that bank. So just wondering if anyone on here might know what the issue is and what I might need to do to get it to scan both banks

I have the same scanner and it works just fine, if I just have the 2 banks on, it scans both banks and when I key up on a conventional frequency in that bank, it stops on it.

Let me know.

Thanks

996p2 doesn't use banks, it uses systems for programming. you must enable all the systems that you program in order to rx them. secondly what ever you are transmitting with may be over loading the receiver of the scanner making it deaf. Also make the squelch is not to tight.

Ok and sorry yah I meant to say the quick keys like 1-10 and the groups 1-10. When I have 2 of those on, on my same scanner it scans the 2 quick keys that I have enabled but on this other same scanner when I have the 2 quick keys enabled to scan, it’s only scanning the one for some reason. I tried reloading it a few times and still not doing it.

another way to explain it, is if you have a PRO 96 or BC796D, when you have say for example 2 banks on, it scans both of those banks and will pick up any talking coming from any of the channels in those 2 banks. But in this one the BCD996P2 when I am doing the same, it’s only picking up talking from the one bank and not the other. It’s like it’s not even scanning the other quick key even though it’s enabled.

Hopefully I explained it a little better.

By any chance is HOLD flashing on the screen? If it is. you are in System Hold. If that is the case, press the HOLD/RESUME button for about 3 seconds to exit.

No the hold is not flashing on the screen. And it’s in ID SEARCH Mode which I always have it in and it’s weird that my same scanner works and is doing what it should, but this one, which is brand new and I have it set up the same way and doing everything the same, is not scanning the other quick key that I have enabled. So I dunno.

Press the function button and change id search to id scsan, that will scan the all the programmed systems in the radio.

What happens when you disable the quick key that is receiving traffic?

Are any group quickkeys that are assigned enabled?

Set the squelch to 2. Here is a PDF file which will answer all of your questions about using quick keys:

When I disable the quick key for that one, then I am only scanning the one other quick key that I have enabled. And yes the group quick keys are enabled for them.

Ok I always have the squelch set to 2. And I know about this scanner. It’s just weird that my same scanner does what I am explaining but this one is not doing it for some reason. Other things work just not doing what I am trying to explain here.

Did you accidentally turn on the attenuator? What programming software are you using? Are both scanners programmed using the same files? Is it a trunked system or conventional frequencies giving you problems? If you attach your programming files, I will check them for errors. You will need to right click on the files and Send to Compressed (zipped) folder to be able to attach them. Click on Attach files and Open the zipped folder.

No I did not turn that on. I am using ARC XT. Yes I used the same files and still even with the 2 quick keys on for example (1&2) it’s only picking up talking on quick key 1 and nothing in quick key 2 (even if someone is talking there). So I dunno if it’s something with the scanner or what.

You may have done this already, but.... If you go into the menu and look at "Program system", select the system you're having trouble with. Go to "Edit system options". If you drill down there, there is an option to review lock-outs. Maybe????
Also, something else, I don't use ARC XT, I use Proscan. But in Proscan, there is an option to lock out channels/talkgroups in the programming itself. Maybe ARC has something like this and it got inadvertently adjusted/enabled for the problem system.

I use ARC-XT also and have no problems with it programming both my 325P2 and 996P2. Use your software and program both scanners again. I want to make sure that nothing got changed in the programming. After programming both scanners, check if you still have the same problem in both scanners or just one.

Yah that is what I use, and I took the same files that I use in my scanner, one that is trunking and the other conventional and it still only scans just that one bank or quick key as it’s called on this scanner, it’s not scanning the conventional one, even though I have it enabled and everything is exactly the same as my scanner set up, so I dunno.

and it’s only the issue with the one I am telling you about, my scanner works like it should and scans those 2 banks or quick keys like normal and will stop on any activity in either of those 2 banks or quick keys.

hopefully I am explaining it good.

as the scanner is scanning what is displayed on the screen, id search or id scan. id seaech will only search the trubked system and not the conventional where id scan willl scan both the trunked system and the conventional channels.

I got it to do that scanning I was trying to get it to do. I was trying stuff then I pressed the PRI button and after that it started scanning the 2nd quick key/bank that I had on and I was hearing talking coming from both quick keys/banks, so looks like that was the issue. So looks good now.

Thanks again for your help
