I understood from the Uniden sales literature that the following scanners can scan the total listed amount of channels:

BCT15X: 9,000 Channels
BCD996T: 6,000 Channels
BCD996XT: 25,000 Channels
BCD396T: 6,000 Channels
BCD396XT: 25,000 Channels

However the guys at Orlando AES tell me that every one of these scanners will only scan a maximum of 1,000 conventional channels, can anybody here confirm or deny this? I tend to have much more faith in AES who never not once was wrong in advice.

They are incorrect. You can program the entire scanner with conventional channels.

I think they may be confusing "Conventional Channels per System with Conventional Channels per Scanner.

Look at the specs for the 396XT in the Wiki.
You'll see that, besides the 25,000 channels maximum, there is a 500 system maximum.
Then, just below those, the other limits are 500 Talkgroups in a Trunked system, and 1000 channels per Conventional system. So, while any one system cannot have more than 1000 conventional channels, you can have multiple conventional systems, up to 500 of them, letting you use the entire capacity (as UPMan noted) for conventional channels.

Uniden Mega Scanners

WOW!!!! Unidens new line of scanners now have 6, 9 & 25,000 channel capacity? That's a far cry from the original 10 channel programmable Model BC210 scanner, thanks for your time, consideration & input fellows, have a nice weekend.

How about the 4 channel crystal scanners? Or the BC 9000XLT which was 500 channels.

Thanks for taking us olde folks down memory lane, my very first handheld scanner was light blue with 4 channels, If I recall, the lights were on the top & they used to flash while scanning & even when it was on one channel, just kept flashing, not a steady light, it was not defective, I guess the hardware made it do that, can't remember who made it for the life of me, I had tons of BC9000's through the eons & I'm down to one now, a UBC9000XLT which I modded with a discriminator tap for ATCS & AIS.

I know it wasn't included in the OP but just thought I would add that I believe the new HP scanners are unlimited.

Not unlimited (limited to 1 MB per FL), but it is way more than nearly anyone would need *. Where you do need more, just make another FL.

* Of course, Bill Gates said about a PC memory: "640 k ought to be enough for anybody"...
