Squelch/volume indicators were added in firmware 2.0

To me the registration serial#'s was likely so infinitesimal of the web page just seems no reason to remove it.

I cant update firmware untill i have the scanner registration key, I cant register the scanner to get the registration key because I cant update the firmware to get the ESN checksum number needed to register the scanner because I need to update the firmware first. 😱

what is the serial number?
I have 4 996T scanners, with the checksums I have I might be able to give a suggestion to try. They seem to be related to that number.
74000053 checksum 110h
74000098 checksum 13Dh
serial numbers are 45 apart, checksums are 45 apart
I also have:
84000501/0EBh and 64000802/0DBh
so if yours starts with 64, 74, or 84 I may be able to guess a checksum.

Thanks everyone. I left the firmware & just updated the programming. It works ok but I suggested he concider upgrading soon. That run around was frustrating. 😅
