I am not sure if this is the right forum for this question,I would like to know if the rear port on the 996xt can be used for scanner control and running Unitrunker / T88 etc? I have a Uniden USB cable for the front port but I cant make it work with Unitrunker or T88.Thanks Tony.

Yes, the rear port can be used for everything except firmware updates.
Does it still require a null-modem cable, or just a straight through serial cable?
If connecting directly to a PC, you will need a null-modem cable or adapter. The port is configured so that you can directly connect a GPS without adapters.
So far, UniTrunker does not work with the XT models, however Pro96Com and Trunk 88 will.
