Is there a decent programming software out there for programming the BCD996XT with a Mac?

I do run Parallels on my Mac, so I "could" run FreeScan or ProScan if I had to, but I just hate Windows.

Any suggestions?

Thanks much.

I wonder what it's like not having any software to run on a perfect computer. I sure hear alot about it everywhere I go.

You leave yourself and all Mac users open to ridicule with a post like this. You don't need to mention that you hate Windows. You won't make any friends that way. And yes, I'm a Mac user.

Seems like everybody has time to offer their opinion of the platform wars, but nobody has the time to answer your question directly, so I'll offer my advice:

There is no Mac OS scanner programming software in existence, most likely due to the low number of people that want it. I'm one of those people, but alas.

The Windows software works under Parallels, but you have to be very careful with assigning the serial port under the hardware configuration menu. Make sure you install the driver for your USB -> Serial adapter cable correctly, and then when you plug it in it will appear in the menu as an option that you can connect to COM1 or COM2. I use a Keyspan adapter to program my Kenwood radios, and one of the old Radio Shack cables for my scanners. I'm not a big Uniden guy, but my HomePatrol attaches directly with USB, and that was one of the easier connections to make.

Fun fact: one of my older Kenwood radios cannot be programmed in Windows and must be programmed under DOS. I almost threw the thing out the window when I discovered that, but with enough patience even that works.

The only alternative is pushing thousands of buttons and programming it manually. Sorry.

I didn't intend such a strong comment about Windows. Let re-phrase and say I prefer working in iOS. But, I've been using ProScan on Parallels for several days now problem free.

And a Mac with Parallels IS the perfect computer! :)
