Does the bct15 have a keyboard lockout? Mine locked out and I don't get any response from any of the keys. If I hook it to the computer via serial cable, I can work the keypad from there. The knobs (function, vol. sql) work fine and I can put it in fire tone out. But I can't get a response from the keys. I looked in the manual but don't see anything about it.

Thanks,
Bill Barr

No keypad lock. Can you get it to do anything from the scroll control?

My new bct15 is doing the same thing. When I use the BuTel ARC15 software it will work and change any thing I want. But not from the Keys I tried to reset the scanner but it would not reset by pressing the keys and turning on the scanner. I haven’t called Uniden yet and that’s my next step. I was locking out some channels when it was scanning when my scanner keys locked out. I thought I had somehow locked the keys but I can’t find a way to unlock them.

Did you guys try re-initializing the radio?

Initializing the Scanner’s Memory
Follow these steps to clear the memory.
Warning: This clears data you have entered. You cannot restore user programmed data that has been deleted.
1.To initialize the scanner’s memory, turn off the scanner.
2.While pressing [2], [9], and [HOLD] at the same time, turn on power.
At that point anything you have programmed is gone.

I tried to reset the scanner just like you had said but it would not work. I 1.To initialize the scanner’s memory, turn off the scanner. 2. While pressing [2], [9], and [HOLD] at the same time, turn on power. But it was just like I hadn’t pressed the keys at all.

Thanks for the help

I tried to re-initialize it but I don't think it recognizes the keys. There are No tones when I press the keys. I can use the uniden software to work the keys. The Function, squelch and volume work fine.

My BC246T goes into this mode when command to by a computer. It is called program mode. If the program does not tell the scanner to leave program mode, I'll get the same behavior.

I have access to a terminal and can send the "EPG" command to reverse this. It may be easier for some to remove the power cord and and the batteries, wait a minute, and re-apply power.

Hope this helps.

What program are you using?

I think both of you need to contact Uniden service and your reseller.

I have developed real-time software for many years and use what I build for the most part.

I run Linux on my personal boxes and use GtkTerm for sending ad-hoc commands to the radio.

The W$ equivalent is HyperTerminal. It's under Start | All Programs | Accessories | Communication in XP. But it makes you jump through some hoops about setting up a dial-up connection. Jump through them until you get to the point where you can select the communication port. Set it to match your radio and use the commands documented in the protocol manual for your scanner. The commands must be in upper case. Once you get the port set the way you like, you can save it for use in the future.

Any updates on this issue? I was getting ready to place an order but if there is a problem then I'll wait.

Not yet, I'll try to contact Uniden this week. Now I'm having a problem with the backlight going out for no reason. I sent Uniden an e-mail last week but got no reply.

I called Uniden Friday and the tech told me it was the first time he had heard of this problem. He was going to do some research and call me back but I haven’t been called yet. I will give then until Tuesday them I am going to call them back and see if someone can find a solution to this problem. If I find what is calling the problem I will post it here.

BCD996T Keyboard Lockup

This same problem appeared on my 996 last evening. The entire keyboard is locked tight but all the knobs function. I can use Uniden or ARC software to reprogram or in Virtual Mode and cause the keyboard buttons to function. Unable to do a complete reset as the keyboard is locked. I called Uniden this morning and they advised me to ship it back to them. Something tells me this is a problem that is going to appear more often to others as well. We don't know what we did to get the keyboard locked... How can we keep this issue from returning???

You said all the knobs function, does this include the scroll control?

James,
I just spoke to Uniden repair. He mentioned another person calling in with the same problem (wonder who that was) LOL. He called the developer to check for keypad lockout, and he said there is none. They want me to send mine in also. I guess I'll send it back to Uniden, maybe it will save someone else a headache later on!
