I just moved to Corvallis and have been monitoring analog 155.4900 Benton Law last day or so, not really sure what I'm listening to, is this dispatch for CPD and LCSO? Is this the simulcast for the 700 MHz trunk? I'm perplexed if there are only 3 channels for Benton simulcast 700 and 2 are control how can it trunk with just one channel? I can't listen to the 700 MHz since my pro 96 inability to cover that band I understand Win 96 will open that up but not very effectively and my pro 164 can program 700 but its not apco 25 this is very frustrating is there a solution or will I only get limited coverage on the old analog channels? Does the same apply with Linn County and Albany PD as well? By the way if I'm not mistaken these 700 MHZ channels were originally used for Over the air TV and since the move to digital they have been auctioned off to the highest bidder, it's all about the Benjamins! Like I posted in city-data about not getting Me TV here in Corvalis, I miss the analog days!
Thanks

Welcome to the area!

For starters, take a look at the Benton County wiki - hopefully the unit numbers and other info listed there will help you identify what you're hearing at any given time.
http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Benton_County_(OR)

155.490 is the primary dispatch frequency for the Benton County Sheriff's Office and Philomath Police Department. The Corvallis Police Department uses this frequency about half of the time these days. The other half of the time (when dispatch staffing allows), they switch to the 700 MHz trunked system, leaving BCSO and PPD on VHF. To my knowledge, neither BCSO or PPD use the 700 MHz system currently. Note that all three agencies are dispatched by the Corvallis Regional 911 Center. 155.745 and the 700 MHz system are not connected in any way for the time being. I can't provide much more informaitno about the 700 MHz at this point as I don't have the equipment to monitor it either.

In case you haven't already explored them, there are several other good frequencies to monitor for LE activity in Benton County - State Police, OSU Public Safety, etc. See the database for more info.

Hope this helps!

Way back when everybody started out on TRI County which was 155.010 still used for mutual aid.
Main Police freqs
155.490 Benton county unit IDs 400 Sheriff 800 Corvallis PD 1100 Philomath 900 series units used to be OSU campus?
154.665 Oregon State Police 23 units think 24 is campus they used to run 155.745 for campus
154.710 Linn County Sheriff 700, 600, and some 500??
153.815 Albany PD VHF now on 700 trunked system 100 series units.

Very helpful, yes I was listening to OSU Patrol last night, pretty boring, well I think I will work on getting a 700mhz digital trunking scanner just the same, since it would appear that's the direction the whole country is going.
Thanks

Yep in fact in the 90's when we lived here we would monitor those channels with a early R.S. Pro scanner, I agree just like snake oil salesman, good for whatever ails you, I.E. poor coverage, what a scam!

I have an old Bct 10 Bear Tracker I just got on ebay or as I like to call ecrap, anyhow it gets some of the freqs, but unless I match them up on the Pro 64 I have to listen for unit IDs etc to know what I"m listening to. works great for HP and State Police monitoring as long you don't go to FL, lol

After using extending frequency on win96 I inputed the 700 mhz frequencies for Benton in my pro 96, but all I hear is the control channel, any ideas why? I know the pro 96 won't trunk 700 mhz like the pro 18, but I just wanted to see if it could be heard.
Thanks

Well that explains it, I just entered the rest of the freqs and I'm getting some garble and it shows DG instead of MO, I'm guessing that's for Digital? Anyhow, I think I'm going to get get either a BCD396t or xt, I hope it will be more intelligible the on the pro 96.
Thanks for the additional freqs.
