• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

It's all crowd sourced.

Correct. And if we don't submit updates to said sites to keep them up to date then we have no room to complain that they aren't up to date.

Same as the database on here - if someone finds new info or something that is different than what is listed, submit the updated info so it can be, yep, updated.

Based on MyGMRS.com most of the repeaters in the areas that I travel through have the same settings. So, I programmed my radio for those settings. If it works, great. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. MyGMRS is a fairly decent resource for finding GMRS repeater information. I will assume that repeaters not listed are not intended for public use. That is the option of the individual who spent the time, money and effort to put the repeater up. Is MyGMRS perfect? Nope. Do I care that it is not perfect? Nope.
I work with ag operations. They are not interested in sharing their resources with the public, the repeaters serve a business purpose for their family owned business. GMRS is a great solution. They do not need to spend the money on business itinerant freqs and they can coordinate larger area communications.

Looking to get my first GMRS radio, getting license today, looking for something simple enough but would like something with the ability to scan the GMRS bands for activity. Is there something like that? If not, what are recommendations for a good radio? Uses would be emergency comms during disasters (typically hurricanes) or SHTF scenario. Was looking at T800. I'll be giving one radio to my dad who lives about 2/3 miles away but want to be able to talk to others also.

TIA

Remember- it’s pronounced boofwang. That said; I second this.

Wouxun is a really good HT GMRS brand to go with. Not that it’s a GMRS radio, the new KG-Q10H is absolutely terrific.

Edit: non-affiliate link below
www.buytwowayradios.com
is the premeir source for Wouxun if you’re interested.
