I still don't know what started it all; but rangers from Natural Bridges state park chased a four runner through the streets of the west side of Santa Cruz. Local police joined the fun downtown and chased the suspects to the other side of Scotts Valley. Speeds exceeded 100 MPH in some locations. The CHP joined the pack on Highway 17 and followed the suspects all the way to the BayShore Freeway and back to Highway 17.
This car chase was easy to follow. This went on for almost one hour. Enough is enough. Santa Cruz CHP officers placed spike strips just across the county and stopped the suspects the hard way.
I heard the chopper trailing them too. CHP units routinely switched from Green to Ruby and back again. I'll bet that everybody has most of those color oded channels in their cars by now. It sounds like the old blue mutual aid channels have been relegated to a tactical status and special events like Tour of California...
