• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Big power on channel 6.

Deriding the less fortunate or Southerners or any other type of prejudice is NOT humorous. Would you like it if Canadians were talking about Americans that way? Same thing. Southerners still have a unique national identity. The Confederate flag IS about HERITAGE not racism.

I find that the 'disaedvantaged' also have a sence of humor. Sometimes, they have more of one than the people who feel they should feel sorry for those 'disadvantaged'.

that's called sarcasm, by the way, and unfortunately, very close to fact...

That's enough off-topic nonsense.

If someone has trouble with another member's posts then report them and let us deal with it/them. Hashing it out in the thread is a waste of time.

I tuned into Channel 6 tonight and someone is playing what I call CB Comedy or Trucker Comedy. It has sound effects and everything.

It sounds like it's coming in from quite a distance. They must be pumping out something serious.

It's 2014 and still happening

I was also curious about this and stumbled across this thread. Still hearing this stuff on Channel 6. How are these people NOT getting caught? As a new ham, makes me wonder how much people are getting away with on the ham bands. Rules are made to be broken I suppose...

I'm in Arkansas and I here these guys all the time on 6. I have a Cobra HH28 handheld with a Cobra Telescopic retractable antenna is all. Sounds like there next door. A few guys out in Southern California are on various channels to I hear a lot.

Good point.. Listening to some of the stuff on 20 Meters. 75 Meters and on the LA repeaters, makes one think that rules no longer apply.

I stumbled across this post which is funny because I heard them today and I am in N. Texas. I could tell they weren't around here.

Boy, I was having a very bad night last evening and in a hell of lot of pain. This link was just what I needed for a major mood change ! I haven't had such a good laugh in a while navigating the website. Every page manages to top the previous! Most of it is downright hysterical. Good thing I had an empty blader. Thanks for putting it up. It made my evening.

I know it's a necro-thread but I couldn't help myself after reading all the naysayer posts about how 10k mobile setups are not possible. In terms of mobile power generation capabilities, one need look no further than competition level car stereo setups. 10k Watts is attainable with several 150 Amp alternators feeding a bank of 6 Optima Red Top batteries bolstered by a few hi-cap capacitors. And keep in mind, most of these jokers cannot transmit for more than a minute or two without cutting out for a cool down and recovery. Often, they will key up and you can hear the noise floor come up as they raise engine RPM to make their announcement. If YouTube is not enough to prove the existence of these setups, perhaps a visit to a large professional, sponsored car show is in order. 5-10kw audio systems are very common. I've seen more than one windshield pop right out of a vehicle due to the SPL generated by a dozen 15" subwoofers consuming 600 watts a piece.

Those Channel 6 guys provide a valuable public service. Want to see if the 10 meter ham band is open? Channel 6 has a great multi-location beacon signal. If 11 meters is open, odds are 10 meters will be too.

Good point. You would not believe how many times I have had guys tell me 10 is dead. I have told them many times no its not. 11 is open. There is just no body on 10 calling. Maybe try putting out a CQ call. Typically these are the same guys that hate CB and call it names like Chicken band and the like. I have told them this on many occasions. I agree 11 is the propagation indicator for 10.
