Hello All!
I have a Compaq laptop CQ60-210us laptop with Windows 7 Premium. I have done all I can to try and figure out what is causing a sudden blue screen to come on, shut me down and reboot for no apparent reason. When I trouble shoot it I get this:

Windows has recovered from an unexpected shut down.

PROBLEM SIGNATURE:

Problem event name: Blue Screen
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THIS PROBLEM:

BC Code A
BCP1: C007D258
BCP2: 00000000
BCP3: 00000000
BCP4: 82A8D088
OS VERSION: 6_1_7600
Service Pack: 0_0
Product: 768_1

I cannot find anything that expalins this. I tried updating all my drivers. Nothing. I set my power management to balanced. I have the computer set to never sleep whether on batteries or AC power. Screensaver is set to 5 minutes and comes on without a problem. When I click on the box for windows to check for a solution, the hour glass comes on briefly, then the whole box disappears and that's it, I dont get it. Has anyone ever run across this particular blue screen problem?

Manny

Is all the hardware secure in your laptop, I've only ever experienced the BSOD when some hardware was loose and was causing a short.

What information dows the blue screen give you?

If the computer is rebooting on the BSOD you can turn off rebooting on error by right clicking on "my computer" and choose properties. Then click advanced system properties. Click on the advanced tab and the click the settings by start up and recovery and clearing the check box beside system failure to automatically restart.

Then when the computer gets a BSOD you will now be able to see what is causing the error by the message. Post the error here and I can help you.

you need to disable automatic restarts and then write down the STOP Error Code.

Hold down the Windows Key and press PAUSE, then let them go.

goto Advanced System Settings> Startup And Recovery> "Uncheck" Automatically Restart> OK > reboot> do the same thing again that causes the BSOD. if it invokes the BSOD again, WRITE DOWN THE STOP ERROR!!

it will look something like this:

STOP: 0x0000007b and so on........

sorry prsmith, i didnt see your post telling the exact same thing.....

Problem Solved !

Well, it all finaly stopped for now anyway. I went through the laptop checking all the hardware like it was suggested on here. When I checked the ram sticks, one looked a little funny like it was scratched on the little gold teeth that go into the computer. I had picked these up at a computer show recently. So I went and purchased 2 new sticks. The man at the store expalined to me that I had to make sure the ram I bought was compatible with the chip set on the motherboard. Well to make a long story short, I purchased an HP set that matched my machine. Don't ask me how the geek squad did it. These two newer chips however, have not caused a BSOD since I installed them. I guess the old ones were not a match. I just picked up 2 because I hate mismatches. The BSOD was coming on almost every 10-15 minutes. I have had the laptop on for hours without any issues. We'll see what happens... My sincerest thanks to all of you for your input and suggestions.

Yeah, loading another operating system is always a great answer.

What if his issue is bad memory? Ubuntu (or any linux version) won't perform any better on faulty hardware.

Come on guys. Lighten up. It's a BSOD joke! THIS WILL FIX THAT!!!

Good to hear. In the future if you want to check for faulty memory, run memtest. Its usually found on bootable Linux ISOs like Knoppix, for example.
