In the past the minimum was five (5) characters. Some of the "games" in the Tavern ran into this as well. One of the games involves a Scrabble-format which currently is playing with four-letter words. The players would put a period at the end of the word to make the 5th character. You might want to try something like that to see if it gets around the error.

Hope this helps,

i guess you did not understand this part "the post was filled entirely by me".

I did not count but there had to be at least 30 or 40 characters.

Correct. I did not understand that phrase.

That sounds strange. I have not seen the too-few-characters error after typing five or more characters. Maybe certain browsers or mobile devices are at risk for this error. I don't know.

Sorry for the misunderstanding and for not having a helpful suggestion,

Are you using a laptop with a mouse pad built in? One problem I have is typing something, then my thumb brushes the mouse pad, selects all my text and erases it just as I try to submit my post, and get that same error.

Typical minitower ThinkCenter(XP Pro) desktop with a typical usb mouse and 20.0.1 Firefox being used.

Did you eventually post something? If so either post a link to the thread/post or send it to me via PM.

With that said, let me explain one quirk that does happen in replies that contain posts that are quoted (not suggesting that this was case in this instance.) Lots of times folks like to interspace answers inside quotes and for long quotes that have several points that is great, but quotes don't count as typed text in replies. If you interspace answers inside quotes, you have to break the quotes in each instance into separate points, as QDP2012 did above.

Problems with built-in mouse pads

I hate the stupid things; they drive me nuts with their insistence on highlighting everything if/when you let your thumb brush over the pad. My newish Dell Inspiron and my old Dell Latitude both do it and I'm going
to go to an external mouse as soon as I can get hold of one. The machine is great; faster than blazes, even if it does have Windows 7, and has a great plasma screen, but the mouse is just too, too sensitive.

Okay, I think I see what you are talking about if you are referencing this post.

There are two ways to intersperse replies inside a quote and have it come out correctly.
  1. There is what the staff refers to as the Warren method; we really don't like it. That is where you sweep and copy the part you want to quote and then place them in quotes yourself, then respond. This makes it all look the same and can be quite confusing to the readers.
  2. There is the method where you hit the <Quote> link (or multi-quote link for several posts) then break down the quote(s) by editing in BB Code QUOTE and /QUOTE where you need them to break up the quote. This is the method we prefer you use.
An example of the latter would be like below:
Yes i did but first time i tried to it was a quote a couple of times and never got an indication that it was accepted.
This would be reply one.

Third time tried as an edit after i realized that the quote had been accepted.
And this would be reply two.

And this is what it looks like in the edit window (except the lines would wrap):
PHP:
[QUOTE="fineshot, post: 1957931"]Yes i did but first time i tried to it was a quote a couple of times and never got an indication that it was accepted.[/quote]This would be reply one.
