Update

Suspicious Device Shuts Down Part of a Kansas Highway

August 4--The bomb squad was called out to investigate what appeared to be a pipe bomb this morning, where K-15 intersects with I-135.

Mike Henson spotted what he thought was construction debris. When he started to pick it up, he noticed it was a pipe with what looked like plastic packages stuffed inside.

Henson became concerned, and put a red flag by the object and called police. When they got on scene, two ramps on I-135 were shut down, as was a portion of K-15 between Wassail and 31st St. South.

The bomb squad attempted to detonate the plastic pipe with a robotic device, then determined it was safe.

The suspicious pipe was found in close range to some businesses on K-15, but no one was evacuated.

8/5/05 00:30 aprox. a 2 alarm fire in Prairie Village. 9 fire trucks from 3 different departments. 3 battalion chiefs, 5 police cars, 2 ambulences, 2 power trucks (transformer caused fire) and several off duty fire fighters. engulfed the rear of the house completely. no one was hurt; they were out of town. fire out around 01:45. watched it all what a night

5:30 am Sheriff dept was doing a mock up of a foot pursute which turned into a Car theft and then into a Suicide with shots fired, THIS WAS RADIO OPERATIONS TRAINING for dispatchers and LEO's ... This was only a test.

But man did it sound real. Operation was on TAC 10.

Salina Firefighters made quick work of a small fire in an attic of a two-story home early Monday morning.
Crews were called to 502 South 8th Street at around 9:15 Monday morning. Division Chief Jim Weese tells KSAL News that there was light smoke on the second floor of the home when the first crews arrived, and the fire was found smoldering in the attic. Though some ceiling joists were burning, he says that the fire was still in its early stages, and had it not been discovered, things could have been much worse.
According to Weese the fire was started by an electrical problem. If it had continued to burn, and not been discovered, he says that the entire attic may have ended up in flames.
Structure damage was minimal, and limited to the attic area. There were no injuries.

Runway Now Open

Report of plane that has made a belly landing. Fire enroute, no reported injury. Will have runway shut down for some time.

Airplane has been removed and the runway is now open.

Plane lands on its belly at Jabara Airport

A 1947 Beech Bonanza apparently sustained a landing gear failure at Jabara Airport this morning. No injuries were reported, but the airport is closed until the wreckage from the plane can be removed from the runway.

The FAA registry of aircraft lists the owner of the plane as Donald Weeks of Taneyville, Mo., but there was no confirmation that the registered owner was the pilot of the plane. Taneyville is a small Ozarks town about 12 miles northeast of Branson.

A witness to the crash said the pilot reported seeing "three green lights" that indicated the landing gear was down and locked but that the gear apparently either did not go down or did not lock.

The plane landed on its belly at about 11:30 a.m. Removing the wreckage and reopening the airport was expected to take several hours.
