That's good. Hey, as long as the county has the dispatchers available, why not? Green Brook, now Bridgewater. Who's next? Hillsborough?

I also heard something about Dunellen making the move too. Even though they're not Somerset, I believe they'll save money instead of sticking with Piscataway. You know all the complaints they've had with them over the past several months.

Often times with these transitions from local to county dispatch, the local dispatchers and call takers will be offered jobs at the county level. Usually they'll start at the county dispatching the town they were dispatching before since they'll be most knowledgeable of that area.

These moves help with not only saving money but also saving time in emergency dispatching - especially when taking calls placed by cell phones. Many local level dispatch points don't have the technology to receive 911 calls thus the county receives all of those and then has to forward the call or information to the local dispatcher.

Not with Somerset County...Dispatchers from agencies being absorbed are free to apply (which also means take the test for the job that you are currently doing sometimes for years). No preference is given in the application process, sonority, or transfer of benefits/salary. If hired you can start on the bottom. Heck you may even have to use a vacation day to take the test (if you happen to be working that day).
