I would never take a radio off the boat, leave it in your room during a ShoreExc

I agree with that. As interesting as it might be, the cruise we were on a few weeks ago had three ports of call:

Puerto Rico

Dominican Republic

Saint Martin

My only language is English.

What I would have understood would have been limited, at best.

Plus, I wanted to focus on what we were doing at each of those ports.

Sitting on our balcony on the ship it was fair game!

It is important to note that cruise ships are registered in foreign countries. Less than 1% are US flagged vessels. You are subject to the laws of that country once you are on board. Your scanner is not allowed. It doesn't matter what is permissible under US law because you aren't in the USA anymore. Probably they would take the radio and give it back to you at the end of the cruise. By the way, even though licensed ham radio use is allowed, it is subject to reciprocal regulations of the country under whose flag the ship operates. The ARRL has info on this.

Is there anything that I can listen to on the carnival valor and in mexico
So a recent email I got, indicates the Valor is DMR for Ch-1 thru Ch-8
with Ch-9 thru Ch-14 Analog

Now to get some OTA confirmations but the DMR Targets would be
457.5625R
457.5500R
457.5375R
457.6000R
with TG's in the 801-808 Range
