Haven't gotten to the station yet I've been missing all my calls while I'm at work, but I did just see encrypted traffic on ems south

I don't listen to EMS so... Are you saying that EMS South dispatch was encrypted? If that's the case then every single EMS radio was programmed and would have the capability to be fully encrypted received and transmit. That would fall into place with the hospital notification talk groups being encrypted as was discussed.

I'm kind of busy today but I will listen to EMS South when I can. No one was ever sure about what would happen with EMS, only fire.

I only saw the one transmission encrypted on that channel and I have ID display disabled on my APX so I'm not sure. It could have been a unit with the switch accidentally enabled.

That's what happened with Bucks County Police. The radios were only encrypted at the officer's discretion. The Commissioners actually said no to full-time encryption at that time and dispatchers would constantly remind officers that the radio was left on encryption.

Of course the commissioners flip-flopped on that and they became full-time encrypted, the vote of the police Chiefs lost by one vote to remain transparent and accountable to the public even though they had encrypted Ops channels assigned to each Zone and selective encryption at officer's discretion. All discreet talk groups were full-time encryption already.

It's interesting what's going on in Trenton, just like Bucks County they never had a problem with hobbyist, First Responders and media types purchasing sophisticated expensive equipment and programming it with good intentions but Trenton always said that if one thing was to occur they would throw the switch and that thing occurred and they did, just like in Bucks.

I worked for decades in Trenton as a newspaper man. They actually kept their nxdn system in the clear for 5 years, we would listen on mounted laptops with DSD in the cars.

Now the Trenton police Administration and the mayor are saying that it was a mistake to cut off transparency and accountability. City Council is working on removing encryption. Interesting.

Further update.
1. I checked our station Base radio and it has not been flashed to support encryption in any way.
2. I checked our utilities mobile, it has been reflashed enabling encryption, all digital channels in the radio are able to have a rekey button, and I can switch to a police zone and key up on at least Police zone 4.
3. No other channels, fire or EMS, have the ability to manually enable encryption.

Things are at least slightly starting to look up.

Yep as I've been saying all along there are no plans to encrypt fire Ops in the foreseeable future. I've got multiple confirmations on that. But anything can happen lol.

Strange, I have had my sds100 for a month and heard nothing on EMS.
Press Menu > Select Service Types > make sure every EMS service type has ON next to it. Can't tell you how many times that has gotten me on the dozens of Uniden scanners I've programmed.

Is it programmed correctly? I am referring to TGs 23 and 24, the EMS North and South Response TGs.
Yes, TGs 23 and 24, the EMS North and South Response TGs.are in there and I paid to have Bucks County programed into the scanner.

Actually the County Commissioners did stand up and denied going full-time encryption but allowed part-time encryption as long as the radio was returned to the clear. The police Chiefs Association peddled a load of cr**p and won out.

bucks83, that's a real shame that Bearcat Warehouse programed your radio the way they did lumping everything together on one scan list. By default these radios do not have all the service types turned on from the factory. How could they program your radio and not know to enable all of the service types that they programmed in the radio?

I guess the commissioners sat down - or maybe felt threatened by the riots last year, and the prediction of continued unrest. We don't seem to be suffering from additional unrest atm, but violent crime has gone up in urban areas across the country. I'm sure that is one of the "new" justifications that led to the decision.

Actually, the official reason the police going encrypted full-time was covid-19 so technically they should be going in the clear again. We are always going to have the riots and MOB rule forever now but we didn't have any in Bucks County.

If you believe that reason, ok - we did nothing like that here. Even the two brand new P25P2 systems placed in service in MD during COVID still have the cops main tgs in the clear.
