Bush visit, shots fired

Wareagle, perhaps you should have commented that the shots fired appeared to have no relation to President Bush being in Memphis, at least according to the news reports, and that a suspect was apprehended by Memphis Police shortly after the incident. There appeared to be no involvement by the Secret Service in this incident, although I am sure that they were made aware of the situation and beefed up their protection of the President without anyone knowing about it. Lastly, I don't believe that this forum is meant to be used to make disparaging remarks about where we live and its citizens. I believe we get enough bad press as it is. Memphrica, please--how embarrasing that you even came up with that!

It's a hard habit to break, caps on all the time. The FCC does their reports in caps, as well as the weather service, Closed Captioning on TV, and many police dept. reports. Some people are disabled and when using the Internet this is the quickest way for them to type. It's tolerable to me, and most of us.
Netiquette does call for caps not to be locked on; Netiquette also calls as well for private contact to the offender by the offended.

Perhaps, *shrug* except I was not offened. I perfer to think of it as a gentle nudge/public service to the poster and all of the newbie lurkers who have not yet posted.

Has anyone found any interesting frequencies? I was asleep yesterday when he flew in, but I'll be up most of this morning. I'll have to listen in on the Airport/Fedex trunk and see if anything interesting is going on.

I guess USSS itself is probably all encrypted, but it would be kinda cool to hear them on the air.

Secret Service is MOSTLY encrypted.. though there are some occaisions of clear comms.. *APCO-25 of course....*

As to interesting things... If plans don't get sidetracked/delayed, Memphis will be hearable again by Christmas, with the entire county on the new system by the end of next year. Again note that depends on no sidetracks/delays!

Did it hurt your squinty little eyes to read it?Nothing else to gripe about I guess.As to the shots fired situation,yeah,blah,blah,blah.If it would have had something to do with the President then I would have made it known,but it didn't, so I just said it happened across the street from where he was staying.As to our beautiful city and negative comments,if you haven't heard the term Memphrica, then you must have been under a rock for the last ten years.It is what it is,too bad so sad.Thats why I live in Germantown. :x

I just wanted to say(or ask) what does it matter if someone types in CAPS?? Why do so many people worry about that? What really is the big deal? Some will say that it is yelling on the internet, but who cares? Some people like to type in all caps....I just wish people would leave it alone and not says something everytime someone types something in caps!!!! Here where I work we do everything in CAPS, and sometime I forget to it the CAPS button. I guess I just feel that it is not anyones place to correct someone if they choose to type in caps.

I understand the yelling, but this is not a yahoo chat room, and if someone wants to type in CAPS, let them be for God sake!

Aside from what you already pointed out that's wrong about using all Caps, here's a few more reasons why NOT to:

-- It's not proper English/Grammar. It's hard to distinguish between proper/formal names and nouns and the rest of the text.

-- Mix all Caps with little or no punctuation and misspellings and basically you got a "pile" of text that most people will not bother to read or more likely will be misunderstood.

-- Go ahead and write your resume or an article somewhere in all Caps and see what results you get....

-- Come On! English is my second language and if I can write and spell decently (albeit not perfect), most people around here should be able to also! :wink:


People that use all Caps will continue to use them no matter what we say. It's their literacy and self-esteem! :twisted: :wink:
