Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Just received my official FCC IG Business Repeater pair license and was wondering if I wanted to swtich to a mototrbo repeater would the license cover that change. I didn't know if there was a difference in a dmr vs analog license. Thanks for any help.

you can only operate under the emission designator(s) on your license. If you are only licensed for narrowband analog, then you can only legally operate analog.

We would need to know your call sign and we can look up the license on the ULS to see what emission designator(s) are assigned to it. If you are not licensed for DMR, you will have to have the appropriate emission designator added and may also affect your coordination.

So, what you are licensed for is a narrow band FM repeater.

Often (not always) you can get approved to change emission designators if your new emission is completely within the envelope of the original. What you won't be able to do is change to something like trunking that doesn't get along well with other users on the same frequencies.

Really, the only way to know for sure is to ask. Whoever did your licensing should be able to help you. As was stated, you do need to get the license changed to match what you plan on using.

Personally, unless you really need the functions that digital provide, I'd stay with analog. The equipment will be cheaper.

I have a mix of analog and digital radios. Have a gr1225 repeater, cdm1250 and m1225 mobiles. Lately have been purchasing xpr mobiles and two ways. The difference is night and day with digital.

Thank you for all the help, I will be contacting the coordinator on my application and see what it entails. The xpr radios will do analog too, so I'll see how they work out. Still waiting on my duplexer to arrive.

You don't need to go through the co-ordinators again, just log on to the FCC website access you license and add the emissions you want. Did it to my license, and I added NXDN, P-25 and Trbo all at once. Add ALL the ones you want at the same time because the FCC is going to charge you each time you modify.
